So....I was at a family function for my fiances family. His aunt approached me regarding her soon to be daughter in law. She asked if I was planning to attended her bridal shower. As I was saying yes she said you know the wedding is the most important part, so if you cant make the shower its ok. I still didnt realize what was going on. So I said again yes I am off that day I will definitely be there. His aunt turns around and said, well we are having a problem with limited seats so really its ok if you cant go.

I am really upset and annoyed by this. Do I still go out of spite. Or do I decline the rsvp and still give her the gift I bought months ago.

Eta----My shower is in a few weeks. Im certain the other bride to be will decline so she thinks I wilp be upset and then not go to hers.

Also debated talking to my m.i.l. but that will end with me being dramatic and aunt so and so didnt mean it that way.

Are you sure she was talking limited seats for the shower or for the wedding? Basically that was a non-invite and I'd decline. Don't hold it against the bride though, hopefully she had no idea this even happened.

I wouldn't go and would possibly send one of those glitter bomb things so when they opened it glitter gets all over the place .

I wouldn't go but remember the bride should t have been involved in planning so this is on the host. I would send the gift with a note sorry there wasn't room for me but I was there in spirit.

I wouldn't have let either of them get away without a real explanation (and I might have had a little fun with them). I would have said, "Excuse me? Are you saying there are limited seats at the shower? Oh, no problem! I have one of those aluminum beach chairs. I'll just throw it in the trunk." Then, I would decline the shower invitation, but I'd be sure to throw a well-placed wink at Aunt Rude and Aunt Rude II if/when I attended the wedding (and no, I wouldn't send a shower gift.)

That was beyond rude -- it was the definition of effrontery.

Then, I would have enjoyed watching them overtalk each other in a desperate (and vain) effort to excuse their hideous etiquette fail

I would have walked away saying "So, can I come if I bring my own seat?" That would have been followed by laughter and at least one decline (but probably two) -- one to the shower (and one to the wedding).

Stand up for yourself when you're young. That's my best advice. If

Devil's advocate here - as someone who is dealing with family members who aren't even involved in planning saying ridiculous things to other guests ... I wonder how much the bride knows about this. I honestly would still go if I already bought a gift. Their poor planning is not my problem. Also, I would probably give the gift still because the bride may not even be aware this kind of stuff is happening.

My sister always means well but can be very demanding of other guests/friends while planning parties because she does not understand etiquette. She has done and said some pretty rude things while planning very lovely parties for me which I usually find out about much after the fact. Luckily my friends know that it is not me making those requests.

    So rude.

It's not your fault the shower was poorly planned. If anything always plan for the maximum amount of people to be there.

I probably wouldn't go or give a gift.

I'm with Holly, given all the facts that the OP has given. I'd be petty and make them regret their rude behavior. I'd arrive early secure my seat and keep my smiling face there the whole damn shower. Sometimes the only way to fight back is with a smile, a gift and a clear ray of sunshine up someone's ass. It isn't your fault that they planned poorly and I highly doubt the bride doesn't know.

It's definitely rude there's no real argument against that. What I will say is: why waste your valuable time going to an event where you are not welcome/wanted? If you want to be the bigger person (or want to pretend to be the bigger person to make them look bad...which I do all the time) then I would decline the invite, give the gift to FMIL, and ask that she take it on your behalf.

WOW that is horrible! How can people be so low? Initially I was thinking "Well, does the bride even know about this? I doubt it so I would still give it to her because she can't control something her soon-to-be aunt said." But then I saw your comment on how you think she does know about the conversation, and if that's the case, screw giving her a gift. If you like what you bought her, consider it a gift to you from her at your shower bahaha.

I'm with the "it's not the bride to be's fault," but yes that is rude af. I would let it go. If the bride to be is someone you are fond of I would continue as planned, go and give the gift you bought months ago.
