Unhappy with vendors/venue??

Rachel, on August 29, 2019 at 12:15 PM Posted in Planning 0 7
Okay so I'm starting to get pretty unhappy. I did a lot of research and everyone I picked had amazing ratings and reviews.. now I have a vendor not even responding to me in a timely manner (it takes a week or two or three) and then there was a miscommunication with my venue in which they didnt even apologize. Anyone else experience dealing with vendors/venue that just dont even seem to care that they're helping you plan the biggest day of your life? I'm so frustrated. I dont want to turn into a bridezilla. But I'm getting sooo mad at some of my vendors and I'm super unhappy with how my venue treated me Smiley sad I don't even know what to do...

I understand your frustration but it is important to remember you are not the only wedding they are working on. I am a full time attorney and plan weddings on the side. I consider myself pretty prompt with clients for two reasons: 1) weddings are not my livelihood so I don't take on more than a few and 2) my phone is attached to me in case I have an issue with one of my legal clients. I have been known to set aside an email to prioritize another bride. Sometimes they have big issues come up with a closer wedding and may feel yours is really under control. Now if you have big decisions pending still then yes they should be getting back with you immediately. I think it's also important to keep in mind different vendors have different expectations. What vendors are you struggling with?

I'm struggling with my hair and makeup artist. I've been trying since the beginning of July just to get my trial scheduled. My wedding is in November. So almost two months later and it isn't scheduled plus, I am trying to start making a timeline and it's hard to keep my photographer informed when I dont even know when she plans to start my hair/makeup on the day of Smiley sad I'm also upset with my venue at the moment as well.

I get it, people are busy. But.. it's my wedding. I get other people have weddings as well but being made to feel like my big day isn't that important? Not fun. Very upsetting

Definitely understand that! They absolutely should have you scheduled by now because as you noted, it holds other things up. I would send them an email and tell them you need to be scheduled or you will have to find other vendors. That might get them moving.

People all over these boards will tell you that no one cares as much about your wedding as you do, unfortunately I’ve found this applies to vendors as well.

If you have a local Facebook wedding resale group, I would recommend posting on there that you are looking for a hair/makeup team for your date. I am sure you will get some responses from people who have availability. Once you have identified a few, I would reach out to your current team and let them know that if they have not been able to schedule you by X date, then you will need to start looking elsewhere. Did you sign a contract or give them a deposit?

As as far as the timeline, I would just ask the photographer when she thinks the girls need to be ready by, and have the hair/makeup figured out once that timeline is decided. Example: our ceremony is at 5, so first look at 3, girls need to be in dresses by 2:15. I told my hmua the 2:15 time, and she worked back from there.

Start looking for someone else now. I understand that people may be busy, and you are not the only bride, but to me that doesn’t excuse poor service and communication. I had a wedding planner never call me back after we emailed and had an initial conversation, so I moved on and found someone else. Two months out you need to lock this down. You can politely, but firmly, ask for more communication and/or express your concerns. You are paying these people after all!

Try contacting the salon directly and tell them you need to schedule. Anyone at the salon should be able to see their schedule and fit you in. This is the height of wedding season so yes vendors are all very busy. They know that your wedding is 2 months away and know they have time to take care of you. Your wedding isn't this weekend. I know you want them to respond faster but try to keep in mind that they are dealing with more brides than you know of. Take a deep breath and try to relax.
