Unbalanced Wedding Party

Katie , on September 9, 2017 at 6:41 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

I've had the worst time having my FH nail down who he wants for groomsmen (BestMen are already chosen). We just tentatively made a list of who he'd like, so far we're at 10 on his side (BestMen included) and 5 on my side. We are preparing ourselves for some on his side to say no do to being out of state, being active duty military, etc. Question is, do I add some ladies to my side to balance? My 5 have already been told/agreed. I do have some friends/cousins I could add, frankly, a childhood friend I've been on the fence about. I have thought if we do stay at 10 GM to 5 BridesMaid then Ill just have 2 GM escort each BridesMaid. Should also mention, 2 of the GM are 2 guys really close to me (cousin and childhood friend) but who have also befriended my FH. Help! Am i stressing over nothing? Or should I wait until he asks his guys and go from there?!

ETA: to clarify Best Men from Bridesmaid. Oooops. LOL

Do not treat bridal party members like props that make a perfect photo for your wedding. Uneven sides are fine. Let your BMs walk with 2 GMs.

Your wedding is next year, so it's too early to be asking anyone- uneven sides are fine. More than likely I'll just have my MOH, and who knows how many GM my FH will have.

Don't ask anyone yet, especially if some are in the military. They will have no idea what their availability will be for next October.

Unless you are royalty getting married in a cathedral, having 15-20 in the wedding party might be a bit much. Are you aware of all the expenses associated with your wedding party members?

If you're gonna definitely have 10 groomsmen I wouldn't ask more bridesmaids just for the sake of making it even. I have seen some ceremonies where the GMs are already standing with the groom and the bridesmaids walk down without being escorted so it's not a big deal if it's uneven. That may be an option. Ask the women who are important to you, going to make the planning process easier, and make your day more special with them by your side !

You absolutely can have unbalanced sides; while our sides are balanced the genders are not. We wanted to keep our wedding party small, three on each side. I would have preferred no one but I lost that battle haha. I'm not trying to deter you from adding more to your side but if you have ten on each side, it will be very crowded up at the front during the ceremony.
