Ugly Bustle

I love my dress but I think the bustle is hideous. I got it altered at the same store I purchased it from, and just viewed the bustle at my second fitting yesterday. The seamstress had told me there was only 1 way to bustle it and this is what she proceeded to do. My dress is a sheath dress and quite fitted, so I think the massive gathering up of fabric in a uniform pattern around my back thighs looks ridiculous. What do you think? Is there another more elegant and flattering way to bustle this dress? Does anyone know if the bustle can be changed or if I am locked into this style (I just had my second fitting).

Thank you!

I think it looks good. Every bustle looks odd initially, I think and I don't know too many friends that have genuinely liked their bustles. They serve a purpose and the last thing people will be noticing is your bustle when you look as amazing as you do in that dress!

I like the bustle! But if you don't, perhaps you could research bustles for your style of dress, and could ask your seamstress if she could do something like what you find.

I don't know much about bustle styles but I get your point. It breaks the natural flow of your dress. Take it somewhere and see if they can make the bustle less conspicuous?

If you feel uncomfortable with how it looks to the point that you would describe it as hideous, I think you should get a second opinion from a different seamstress. I've seen lace sheath gowns bustled in other ways. I don't know as much as a seamstress does, so I can't guarantee that yours would be able to be bustled differently, but if you get a second opinion and they tell you "yeah this is the only way you can do it" then you might be more okay with it. If you never know if it can be done differently, that will probably weigh on you. There's no need for any extra stress leading up to your wedding day, and the best way to keep that stress at bay is to get a second opinion and see if this truly is your only option for bustling. If it's not, you can work with the new seamstress to find a bustle that suits your vision better. I know this is probably an unpopular opinion, but I've noticed a lot of people will tell you "no don't worry at all it's beautiful!!!" Which is great that everyone is so supportive and kind... But that does very little to stifle your qualms when you feel so strongly about it. So, if it were me, I would absolutely get a second opinion and see if there were any other options you could do instead since you're feeling so crummy about it. By the way, your dress is BEAUTIFUL on you!

I like the bustle, personally. While I think you could probably have also done an under bustle, like pp showed on her dress, I think it would have looked very strange with the length of the train and it being all lace. I really do think this was your best option. It sort of gives it the feel of a mermaid cut dress when bustled.

Ask if she can pin it French bustle style, or show you a train flip.

If you're not happy with it, then at least ask other seamstresses. Your dress is something you shouldn't have to settle for (unless it's because of price). You're certainly not locked into that style. Also, your dress is dreamy.

My all lace dress with a French bustle. Just an idea for if you go through with changing it
