Ugly Bustle

Sharon, on August 20, 2016 at 4:44 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 43

I love my dress but I think the bustle is hideous. I got it altered at the same store I purchased it from, and just viewed the bustle at my second fitting yesterday. The seamstress had told me there was only 1 way to bustle it and this is what she proceeded to do. My dress is a sheath dress and quite fitted, so I think the massive gathering up of fabric in a uniform pattern around my back thighs looks ridiculous. What do you think? Is there another more elegant and flattering way to bustle this dress? Does anyone know if the bustle can be changed or if I am locked into this style (I just had my second fitting).

Thank you!

Have you posted the pic? Right now, all I can see is a woman with a body that makes me want to cry.

God, your gown is freaking gorgeous.

Thank you for the compliments on the gown (and my physique). Regarding the latter, life is just unfair (I am naturally thin, but my sister and fiance struggle a lot with their weight so I certainly get it).

I just posted the pics. Can you see it?

The second and third pics? Is that what you're worried about? Stop worrying. Sure, there's a bustle in the second and third pics, but if you, for a minute, believe that bustle detracts from your figure, you're mistaken. Leave this post up. By this afternoon, I predict you'll get all of the positive feedback you need to walk into your reception feeling as beautiful as you are.

Thanks guys! I'm actually not worried about it detracting from my figure. I'm just worried that it looks really weird and not elegant. And perhaps I am needlessly worried! I just have never seen a bustle like the one given to me before. The ones I've seen always harmonized with the dress much better. Mine just looks like a massive collection of fabric at my back thighs in one place :-/

I'm going to disagree and say take it somewhere for a second opinion. It looks like there are a lot of buttons all in an arched row? A girl on here a few weeks ago had a bustle like that and she wasn't a fan either. My sister had a lace dress similar to yours and hers was 5 buttons but they were more of a pentagon type pattern. I don't know much about bustles other than there is more than one way to do it.

I would also suggest taking it for a second opinion. I don't like the little arch of buttons (are they buttons? I don't know anything about bustles); it just looks a little odd since the rest of your gown is so slim - does that make sense?

    Regardless, you look stunning!

Did you discuss with your tailor what style of bustle you liked, or what she thought was appropriate for your dress? I don't mind the look - I think it looks fine. You'll just be using this when you're on the dance floor, so it isn't like this is what it'll look like walking down the aisle.

That dress is amazing and you look absolutely gorgeous in it! I do see what your saying, but I don't think it looks bad at all.

I think it looks fine but if you're not happy with it I'd ask about other options.

I am in the same boat as you. The lady that is working on my dress said due to the wide train and layers it is the only way. I HATE it. I feel like its a curtain in my butt. It doesn't look bad but I get it because I hate it on me too. Following because I don't know what do to. I told her I wasnt doing it and at my next fitting s going to try to figure something out

Pretty dress. I would get a second opinion on the bustle.

I'm wearing a sheath dress too. My bustle is "French" style, where they fold the fabric underneath itself, and I think it looks pretty elegant. Not sure how that would look with lace (my dress is silk crepe), but might be an option to consider. I agree that this looks a little too bulky and uniform, but I would never say it's ugly! The dress is gorgeous, as are you, so I really don't think anyone would notice.
