Two dresses for a beach/cruise wedding??

Mary, on November 28, 2018 at 5:06 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7
Hey Guys! So I was hoping to get some input on a dilemma I’m debating. The question is: should I get a second dress??

Our wedding will be taken place on a beach. We will cruise to the spot, have the ceremony and a small reception (mostly just celebratory drinks) and then have some photos taken while at the beach. Then we will head back on board the ship and have the formal reception, dinner and more pictures taken (around the ship). At first I was the one to say I’d never take my wedding dress off I only get to wear it once, then it dawned on me that the bottom of the dress will most likely be ruined and have a shade of sand all over it and I am worried it’ll be a distraction in any of the pictures taken especially once back on the ship.. I guess I can’t decide if I’d even want a second dress or if the wedding will be so special and magical that I won’t care if there is a little ( a lot lol) of sand. What do you think??

Hi Mary! Welcome to WeddingWire and congrats on your engagement!

Hmm your situation makes perfect sense. Have you found your first wedding dress yet? If so, what is the silhouette of it? If you chose a second dress, would it be a shorter "cocktail" type dress?

    Thank you!
I do not have the dress yet but I believe I have decided on one. (Oleg Cassini CWG747 from David Bridal) it’s a beautiful ivory lace mermaid with a scallop trim and light beading head to toe. I though it would elegant but light enough to look formal but still be comfortable to wear on the beach. If I got a second dress I feel like it would be long. Idk if I could do short simply because they never feel like wedding dresses to me and if I take mine off then I would still want to find like a bride.

Depends on how much you love your first dress and how much you’re willing to spend! But my friend got married and loved her dress so much. Someone spilled beer on it at the reception and the bottom of the trim was dirty from walking in the grass and she just said “oh well it’s memories”.
Sand is easy to blow off..as long as it’s not wet sand. If you love the dress enough and want to save money maybe just go with the “oh well it’s memories” attitude! But if you will be more comfortable and don’t mind spending more, get another dress! It’s your day and I promise no one will be staring at the bottom of your dress, but do what makes you happiest!

I wouldn’t think sand will be an issue, just don’t get it wet. Any stains (ie grass, dirt) are under the train anyway. If you love your dress keep it on! 👍

I think it does depend on how you feel about the dress. I wouldn't mind the sand at the bottom of the hem... I think it will add personality in the pictures (that you've enjoyed the dress) Smiley smile

If it really bothers you and you have the extra $$ to spare, then get another one...

If you're not sure, see if you can buy a dress that you can return and then if you don't use it then you can return it later... (you won't be able to alter it though...)

We got married on the beach, but the sand just shook right off. I made sure I did not get it wet (much to the disdain of my photographer) because I didn't want to drag around a wet dress all night. It worked out great. I don't recall it looking dirty in any of the pics I have seen so far.

I would definitely get two dresses, I’m having a cruise wedding and have three! Lol well the first one is a two in one so technically two dresses but three different looks 😉!
