Two different centerpieces

MissJessica, on June 28, 2015 at 4:39 PM Posted in Planning 1 26

We are getting closer to our wedding and I'm still not totally sold on the centerpieces that they have at the venue. They are hurricanes with candles on mirrors that I am dressing up with glitter votives, rose petals, and a sparkly table number. My fiance wants to have something cooler, so I tried out some pillar vases with floating candles. These looked really pretty and romantic, just obviously not included in the venue and we would have to buy all of the supplies.

My question in, have you been to wedding/had a wedding with two different types of centerpieces? Did it look okay? I'm thinking since they both will have the same runner and mirror, then it's either a hurricane with white candle or glass vase with floating wine candles, that they will complement each other, but I'm looking for some advice before I go start buying the things for centerpiece number two.

Thanks!

I really like the idea of having two or even three different centerpieces as long as they have a common design element to tie them together. I think it makes it more interesting. Do you have any pictures of either of the centerpieces?

We had two separate centerpieces and they looked amazing! I also did the table numbers in black and teal so those centerpieces with the teal vases had the black table numbers and the black lantern centerpieces had the teal table numbers. I loved how it switched things up a bit.

We will have 2 different centerpieces, half will be tall, half short. Perfectly normal and a great way to save some money if you like something more expensive you just do a few of those and then more of the less expensive option

I have two different centerpieces as well since we are having ~ 5 low round tables and 5-8 high top tables. I didn't think the round centerpieces would look good on high tables so I'm having three orange roses and a few twig like things in vases on the highs.

Yes, I like the look of multiple centerpieces. We're having three different styles. I ordered some stuff from save-on-crafts.com and everything but the shipping was really affordable.

We're having two different types. We're doing half of them taller and half of them small bouquets.

We are doing 2 different types, short and tall flower centerpieces, with similar but not identical arrangements. I definitely think it adds visual interest to the reception! I think what you're describing sounds really nice.

I'm having two that are very diff from each other. Half the tables will have lanterns and candles and the second half will have birscages filled with flowers and have a fake pillar candle inside as well. All the lanterns and cages are diff shapes and sizes and colors so all my tables will be a little different.

Thanks for all of the responses! I'm glad that it seems to be something that is normal and seen often. I agree that it will probably look good and mix up the look of the room. Looks like I will be shopping tomorrow! Smiley smile

We haven't decided on centerpieces yet. But I am pretty sure that we will be having at least two different types (maybe 3) - enough to compliment each other but also break up the designs.

Seriously, this is done all the time. Differing, but coordinated, centerpieces are very common. For a bride with 17 to 20 tables, the cost of a gorgeous, tall centerpiece on every table can be prohibitively expensive (those tall pieces start at $150 and go up from there). We often suggest that a bride splurge on four or five tall pieces (strategically placed on various tables) and then use a low coordinating centerpiece on the balance of the tables. If you look at the photos Nikki posted, you'll get a bird's eye view of what I mean (beautiful centerpieces, Nikki). We've had countless brides who use two or three different centerpieces (tall, compote, and low). As long as they all relate to each other, the overall result will be beautiful. Don't worry about it. Just be certain that your centerpieces follow a common theme and the overall result will be perfect.

Oh, from a professional point of view, consider skipping the scattered rose petals around the centerpieces. If you want a cooler, cleaner look, remove what I refer to as "table dandruff" (rose petals on tables...sorry if you're using them, but I really don't think it's necessary). It would be preferable to actually add a bud vase with an actual rose to the vignette.

We had 2 different centerpieces to tie in our theme and everything was just the way I dreamt of it! It's your wedding, you can do whatever you want!

We only had one type, but then, we only had 10 tables. For my sister's wedding she had 26 tables, and 2 different centerpieces - half high and half low. They used some of the same flowers/some different, but mostly the same colors.

Our theme is birdcages and lovebirds. I thought it would look like too much to have birdcages on every table so we're doing alternate tables and vases on the other tables. I've been to man wedding that there were multiple centerpieces.

I think we're going to have two different centerpieces; tall and short. I'm leaning toward having similar flowers in each, like hydrangeas, and using willow branches in the taller ones too. I'm still toying with ideas Smiley smile
