Tuxedos and evening wedding

MN Kate, on February 6, 2015 at 10:16 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

I am in love with the idea of my FH wearing a dark gray tuxedo. But now that I am planning I am wondering if it isn't formal enough for our 6:00 -6:30 evening ceremony. Because it's an evening ceremony should he be wearing black? Thoughts?

I don't know if there's etiquette to this or not, but in my opinion wearing any suit is formal. Dark gray is just as classy.

If you read on super etiquette-y sites they will say gray is too informal. I say it's awesome and do what you like. Smiley smile suits are suits in my opinion Smiley smile

What's the style of your wedding? Yes the time indicates more formality but if it's not going to be super formal then gray sounds fine.

It's fine. I saw those grey suits (you know the ones...) all year last year at evening weddings.

Gray tuxes are a thing (my fiance wants to wear one) and I think that a tux is a tux. The formality is a combination of things and it's all about how you put the look together

DH and his GM all wore charcoal gray tuxes and we had an evening wedding. It looked great

I think it's fine. FH looks real good in gray and would probably get that color suit for the wedding, but since we are having a fall time wedding, I told him that his only guidelines were either black or beige color suit since I think those colors would look best for the overall look and he could pick the color for his tie as long as it was a fall color. He has a pretty good sense of style so I trust him to be able to handle the rest Smiley smile

Commenting again because we went to Jos. A. Banks today... Smiley smile

YES, I saw the gray tuxes! haha. I love them! The gray tux is too dark for our summer wedding though. My fiance had previously gone and picked out a suit he likes, its a light gray pleated front suit. I know absolutely nothing about suits BUT the the sales guy told me that a pleated front suit is more formal and that cuffed pants are more formal. So if you go with suits instead of a tux, look for those to keep it more formal.

I have seen people wear black to a mid day wedding. I don't think the color has any influence on whether its day or evening, its more of a personal choice. My wedding ceremony starts at 6:30 and cocktail at 8:00 pm FH is wearing a dark gray tux.

My FH is wearing a dark grey tux. He should wear what he wants, no one is going to comment on wearing a certain color tux at a certain time of day

A tux is still very formal. My FH is wearing charcoal gray also. I think in some cases black is too harsh and gray seems to be a bit more modern. As long as you're not requesting your guests wear black tie attire, everything is fine.
