Tungsten wedding band

Caylin, on June 26, 2019 at 4:27 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

Has anyone bought a tungsten wedding band? If so, are they durable? Husband wants a hammered gold band and we are wanting to save some money on rings. Stumbled upon on Etsy shop that makes tungsten rings.

They are durable meaning they won’t scratch but they are extremely brittle meaning if you drop it it could crack or shatter. They also can’t be resized and if you ever have an emergency where the ring needs to be cut off emergency personnel won’t be able to cut it with a traditional saw. For those reasons we didn’t go with tungsten.

I have a tungsten band. It's true you can't resize it though but my vendor gives lifetime warranty where if I need it resized it'll be free just they replace the ring entirely is all with a new one of a diff size. It also def is cheaper.

My FH has worn a tungsten ring for the last two years, and it has held up amazingly well considering he works with his hands constantly. Much cheaper than other metals too. He wants a tungsten wedding band as well.

    ^^THIS

We decided against tungsten for this reason. FH and I are both engineers, we are out in the field frequently. If there was ever and instance where they would have to cut the band off you can basically count on losing that finger. Not a risk we were willing to take.

Fh is not allowed to wear any type of jewelry at work so we went with tungsten

We did some research and talked to the jeweler and this is apparently a misconception. From what we found and were told they break if enough force is applied.

It will break but they would have to realize it’s tungsten and not try the typical saw first. I just have a friend who lost a finger due to wearing a ring during a freak accident so it made me nervous!

Enough force but it won't break your finger? I would also look into silicon bands. Much safer if you are working with your hands everyday.

Yep! Not worth it for me. I will also be getting FH a silicon band to wear while he is at work. He actually asked for it.

From what I read the emergency responders carry vice grips specifically for tungsten rings.

We both have silicone bands. I don't wear mine anymore since he got me a diamond band, and he wears his everyday. He just wants something nicer to wear with his suits when we go on dates or a family gathering. He is currently in the military right now so the silicone band has been a great purchase!

What does your fh do if you do not mind my asking? Mine is not allowed to wear metal bands...I wonder if they would allow a silicon one.

We are both engineers. He is on the construction side so he is in the field at job sites with heavy machinery. It's a steel toed boot, hard hat, safety vest kinda deal. Some times he is underground in subway tunnels and sometimes he could be operating a crane.

Your FH should ask his safety person at work. The silicon bands are mostly acceptable for all work environments.

That’s great! I did not know that. He wears steel toed boots as well. Forklift operation and loading offloading type stuff. I’ll have to ask him to ask about it. Thanks for the info 😃

We have talked to at least 3 jewelers who said tungsten can break, it can't be resized. Some people are sentimental about wearing the ring their partner put on their finger on their wedding day. As people age, their finger sizes change, and as seasons change, your fingers may swell. FH finally decided to go with white gold

I'm wondering the same thing. My FH works in a warehouse with heavy machinery, and they aren't allowed any metal bands.

I guess I'll have him ask at work if he can have a silicone band. Better than not wearing anything!
