Tree Planting during ceremony - what kind of tree?

Private User, on September 1, 2016 at 4:53 PM Posted in Planning 1 9

My FH and I plan to have a tree in a big pot with jars of soil from both our parents houses. We're going put the soil in the pot and water it.

My question is - we currently live in an apartment and will be house hunting shortly after our wedding. Not knowing how long it will be, is there a specific type of tree that we could plant and keep indoors until we're ready to plant it in our own yard?

@fall bride -that's what I was thinking - but I thought maybe I was being overly cautious about getting my dress dirty...

"Little Al"...it's a pine tree that stays little......

    It's not messy, really.

I'm a classic klutz, and spill, drop things, trip over nothing, etc all the time - if there's a spill/mess risk - it will happen to me...

I think this is actually a really nice ceremony, but I couldn't do it.

I would NOT be able to stop myself from holding the jar over my head and shouting, "I've got a jar of diiirt!!" Like Captain Jack Sparrow. Smiley xd

@mna that's what my husband did after our sand ceremony

OP I'm not sure what species would be good but I do love the idea!

Find out what kind of tree grows well in your area. If you'll be in an apartment for several years, get a slow-growing tree. If you'll move soon, oak trees grow fast -- I've got 2 in my backyard that are HUGE.

Ficus trees are notoriously fickle when being moved from one spot to another and will drop their leaves.

I usually recommend watering the tree instead of getting messy with dirt.

Some of my couples water a potted plant -- such as an orchid.

A friend of mine did this, but the tree was already in the planter with dirt and what not when the ceremony started. During the ceremony, they each added a shovel of dirt and then watered it. Just a thought, so that you don't chance getting dirty.
