Travel time to wedding venue from hotel?

Liberty, on October 21, 2020 at 12:36 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8
Hi ladies,

I'm sure this has been discussed but I can't seem to find a good category to put this question under. A lot of our friends and family are coming from out of town, a good 2+ hours travel time and the only hotel that I've been able to get in contact with about room blocks is 20 minutes away from our wedding venue. Now fortunately, our ceremony and reception are in the same location. We are getting married during memorial day weekend in a town that's flooded by tourists for the lakes. There are a couple hotels that are much closer literally less than 10 minutes away but the problem is I've been trying to get in contact with them about reserving room blocks and they haven't gotten back to me. Do you all think I should try multiple hotels or ask our guests to travel 20 extra minutes if they're staying at the hotel the night before? Thanks in advance!

20 minutes is fine, but I would look into hiring a shuttle if possible.

Our “main” hotel where we had our large block of rooms (40+) was about 30 minutes from our venue. We did do small courtesy blocks (10 or less rooms) at other nearby hotels, but most decided to stay at the main one. We did offer shuttles to and from the venue so that guests didn’t have to worry about transportation. We also hosted our afterparty at the hotel’s restaurant lounge. This helped sway guests to stay at the hotel.

20 min travel time isn't bad at all. Our venue is 20-25 min away from the hotel we're wanting to book rooms at, so don't worry! I agree with Caytlyn, def. look into a shuttle because you don't want people drinking at your wedding (if there's alcohol provided), and then driving afterwards.

20 minutes isnt bad at all, but I would recommend getting a shuttle so guests will not have to drive 20 minutes after the wedding is over. (Not even safe to drive five minutes if theyve been drinking.) also if one of the other hotels gets back to you, just get a block at that one too. Theres

Twenty minutes is fine, but I agree with others that I would look into a shuttle so that guests who have had alcohol won't be drinking and driving.

I do not think 20 minutes is too long, so I would go ahead and book a room block with that hotel. You could also keep trying to contact the closer hotels and make an additional room block there. We offered 2 different hotels with room blocks for our wedding to allow our guests to choose the accommodations that best fit them.

20 minutes is slightly annoying, but not the end of the world if that's the only one available (and responsive). A shuttle would make your guests a little bit happier, just make sure you have a few times for people to return to the hotel and let them know what the times are ahead of time.

Also, if you want to keep looking for a closer hotel, I would recommend looking into Kleinfeld Hotel Blocks. It's free. We used them to set up (and reschedule) our hotel block and it made the process a lot easier. It took a couple of days to get a response the first time, but after that the person (Emily?) was very helpful and basically did all of the work for me.

I think the perfect solution would be to hire a shuttle service to take your guests from the hotel to the venue, and back to the hotel and the end of the night Smiley smile
