I wouldn't get anything there, at least, not at the store we went to for MOB dresses. They were awful and completely ignored us until we gave up and just started walking out the door.

It's not that I think the dresses from DB are trash, I just didn't like the service.

I went to a smaller boutique and DB. I went in with a $500 budget The dress I picked online from DB and tried on I just didn't feel were "substantial" feeling dresses. Which was probably just the style I was trying on. And the corset I tried on with the dresses itched to no end and my consultant was a little weird and annoying and I broke out in hives from the stress of trying on 15 dresses I didnt like. Needless to say, I ended up buying from the smaller boutique. I see NOTHING wrong with DB and feel my experience would've been 100% different with a different consultant... I agree with OTW the ones who call it trash can SUCK IT.

I don't judge David's for what it is. It is an affordable, quality option. Kind of like the Forever 21 of bridal wear. I shop at Forever 21 just as frequently as I shop at Macys, Nordstrom, or Neimans. Meaning I don't snub it, or scoff at it. I think that more brides should look at their budgets and make realistic dress purchases. Your dress should not cost more than your venue and menu. Besides, I think it looks ridiculous when brides walk down the aisle in a $5K beaded ball gown in the middle of a community center...Like, couldn't you have sprung for a better venue if you were going to look that princess decked out?

Anywho...I got my dress from Alfred Angelo which is just a small step up from DB...Basically, I was at the Macys of bridal wear and I did get my dress on sale ala Macys. LOL.

I got my dress from David's and had excellent customer service - besides my friendly, knowledgeable consultant being AWESOME, the manager was out walking around telling the brides-to-be how beautiful they looked.

A wedding dress is something you're going to wear one day in your life - it's all about how you feel in it. I looked at a higher-end boutique and found similar dresses with much higher price tags. With a strict budget and a desire to not have to pay too much for something I'm going to be wearing for 10 hours out of my lifetime, David's worked out perfectly for me.

I did not want to pay something that would equate to our mortgage payment for a dress I will wear for maybe 8 hours so I only looked at David's. I love my dress it is beautiful and cost less than $250. I do not have any regrets and since it is tea length i did not need any alterations. I'm just gonna reinforce with double sided fashion tape and will be good to go!

@Amanda & @Rikki - Exactly!! I'm not knocking people who don't shop there, either. It's a bridal store that happens to serve a larger audience. If it doesn't work for you, fine. If you can get what you want, feel awesome and not put yourself into debt for it - then that's great, too. It just ends up preserved in a box or on oncewed.com after all. ;-)

I got my dress from Davids and I love my dress. Plus doesn't DB carry Vera Wang now? Soooo how is that trashy!? She dresses celebrities! If DB was trash I don't think Vera would be lending her name to them.

DB sucks! I went with 4 different women for wedding dresses (different years) and never found anything. I never gave DB a thought, all their dresses look boring and unoriginal. I went to a small boutique that was super friendly and super fast delivery, plus my dress came in needing no alterations. They even gave us a great discount on the BM dresses. DB and HOB can suck it.

Is there a designer label on the outside of these $2k dresses?! A watermark that says "Vera Wang" across the chest? I don't get why they need to cost so much. All that matters is that you love your dress and feel beautiful. No one will be able to tell where the dress came from, who designed it, or how much you spent.

Beth, you're right. For the most part, no one will be able to tell who the designer is or how much you paid for your dress unless you tell them. However, quality material has a hefty price tag. Personally, I didn't see the quality in DB dresses that I saw at other smaller, private boutiques which is why I chose to purchase my dress elsewhere. I have only purchased from DB once... for a homecoming dress when I was a junior in HS. I don't have anything bad to say about my visit with them then. But now, for what I wanted in a wedding dress, they couldn't offer it. What others think about the price/quality of your dress makes no difference as long as you're happy with it.

Sidenote: What's the difference between someone calling the dresses at DB "trash", and someone saying that a woman who pays over $1000 (or whatever) for her dress is stupid? It really just depends on what you want and how much you're willing to pay for it right?

My BM dresses are coming from DB. I bought my dress at a smaller place because 1. It's my perfect dress (seriously had one of those "let me cry I look so pretty" moments) and 2. I'm borderline plus size (I could do the regular 16 or the 14W) but no one at the DB I went so seemed to understand that. It's nothing against the sales person, she was just teeny tiny, fairly new, and probably didn't know what to do with my body type.

Mrs_M To Be, who called you stupid?

I've never seen a cheap-looking wedding dress, so I can't agree that quality material is always pricey. My wedding dress was marked down 80% simply because it was last year's style, and the amount I paid had nothing to do with the material. Sometimes it is just a branding game.

I agree, Beth. Just like anything else, you usually pay more for the name. Think store brand vs. name brand. There really are only so many "original" designs out there, so unless there's a bride right next to me in the same dress, I don't care. As long as I feel beautiful in what I'm wearing and I didn't go into debt for it, it's cool. :-)

Uhhh, I'm not talking about me, I'm just saying in general. I wasn't talking about mark downs either. I'm talking about ordering a dress and having it made. Not buying off of the rack. To have a dress sewn out of quality material often takes months, not weeks. Just because a dress is labeled "Vera Wang" doesn't necessarily make it worth $10,000, but when you factor in material such as pure silk satin which costs $100 a yard, hand beading, hand embroidery, the time it actually takes to sew a wedding gown together if parts of the dress are made all over the world, etc. etc. the cost adds up. Hand everything takes time and you have to pay for labor, whereas a machine can put something together in just a few hours.

Bottom line, quality costs more and for the record, I have seen a LOT of cheap dresses. Haven't you ever seen the horror stories and photos of Chinese knock-offs? Not all of them, (there are some WW ladies that have gotten beautiful dresses), but in the end, you typically get what you pay for. To some people (not specifically talking about me) the quality of DB dresses, even the Vera Wang ones just aren't there.

Again, it just depends on what you want, and how much you're willing to pay for it.

I didn't see anyone generally refer to anyone as stupid, but yikes, sorry you got offended? It sounds like you're talking about construction--off the rack vs. custom handmade, so yes, the latter will cost more regardless of material, and a lot more if you need $100-per-yard fabric. That's cool, enjoy your dress. The point is, don't assume a dress is poor quality based on the price tag. Everyone who bought from David's Bridal will be enjoying their beautiful wedding dresses too, and no one will be looking trashy or cheap.

I'm glad the author's mother and sister staged an intervention and got her out of the gown she thought was stylish and trendy, but was, in reality, a disaster on every level. She looked fantastic in the David's Bridal gown.
