Transporting the Wedding Dress

Jess IsZen, on October 26, 2017 at 11:11 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

Hi everyone! 15 days until my wedding day and I have no idea how to go about transporting my wedding dress. Can I get some advice please? It's a silk ball gown and I have to get it pressed. My seamstress told me to leave it out the garment bag once it's pressed of course to prevent wrinkles. I have to get ready before I get to the venue. I don't want to ride to the venue with it on and I'm scared to transport it without it being in the bag! Then I don't want to put it in the bag because it might wrinkle! OMG help me....how does this usually work?

Is there a way to go to the venue before the wedding day to hang the dress, maybe after you pick it up from the seamstress? Maybe ask the seamstress if you would be able to steam it on your own if you need any small wrinkles out. They sell small portable steamers on amazon for 20 bucks.

If you have access to a vehicle with fold flat rear seats. I would lay down the seats, put a clean sheet over them and then gently lay the dress out on top. It would probably be ideal to transport it hanging but I have no idea how to do that. Maybe there is a way you can have a steamer at your venue to release any wrinkles that happen during transport. I wish you luck!

My venue won't let me bring anything at all the day before! It sucks so bad!

However, I do have an SUV where the seats lay flat so I could try that and I didn't think about the steamer! I should definitely purchase that because I'm almost positive that it's going to wrinkle Smiley sad

I'm all for the portable steamer idea. It will be indisposable to you even after the wedding day.

I agree with putting the dress at the venue the day before so that it can hang and any wrinkle it gets from being transported should fall out over night.

To transport it, you can buy a cheap twin sheet, cut a hole in the middle, and stick the hook of the hanger through the hole. It's not a bag but at least it's a cover to protect your dress. If you can, lay it down flat in the backseat - that should also be covered in a sheet just in case.

I second the portable steamer. Just put it back in the bag for transportation and then take it right out when you get there and steam it. I'm sure it will be perfect and beautiful.
