Total stranger asked if my engagement ring is fake

Ok so this is kind of a rant because I can't believe how rude some people are. So at work today a customer just flat out asked if my ring was fake. I politely said it's not and she went on to say she saw one like it that was fake and even said I should look into if it's fake or not. I said I picked...

I politely said it's not and she went on to say she saw one like it that was fake and even said I should look into if it's fake or not. I said I picked it out so I know it's not fake and she finally shut up. It was like she couldn't let up on the topic and I'm just appalled at how rude that was! Has anyone else ever been asked super rude questions about their rings?

That was so rude. I've gotten insensitive comments. One was from a friend who asked me to text her a pic (she lives out of state) and when she saw it in person she said, "It looks bigger on your hand."

My ring is 2 carats. It doesn't look small at all, ever, in pics or in real life.

I was on vacation with friends in Turkey and we got pushed into a Turkish rug demonstration. He kept showing us these rugs that cost $30k and we kept telling him we would not be buying a rug and could not afford anything like that, and then his partner made some comment to me about how since my FH bought me my ring he surely could afford a rug. I was livid - besides the fact that my ring is actually super inexpensive because it is a lab sapphire (my own feelings about diamonds and also having FH spend so much money) it made me angry for him to assume I would just have him buy this insanely expensive rug. They were pretty but I don't need to walk on silk everyday, thanks.

Non traditional rings seem to stump other people. They can want what they want, but my ring is perfect for us and for me.

Yup. People can be rude. I've had the "omg let me see your ring " followed by "oh...that's different .." It's like

Yeah ? So ? What's you're point ? Sorry my ring doesn't look like everyone else's. It's what my husband picked out for me , based on what I said I liked (I told him I liked blue sapphires way before the thought of getting married occurred ). Totally agree with Mrs. Cheapskate , no one NEEDS a ring , and especially not the diamond ring you see everywhere

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. It's unfortunate that some people can be tactless and insensitive. Remember that the value of your ring doesn't define the worth of your relationship. It's understandable to feel frustrated, but try not to let someone else's thoughtless comment affect your joy. What matters most is the love and commitment you share with your partner. You have every right to be proud of your ring and your relationship, regardless of what others may say.
