Total stranger asked if my engagement ring is fake

Ok so this is kind of a rant because I can't believe how rude some people are. So at work today a customer just flat out asked if my ring was fake. I politely said it's not and she went on to say she saw one like it that was fake and even said I should look into if it's fake or not. I said I picked...

I politely said it's not and she went on to say she saw one like it that was fake and even said I should look into if it's fake or not. I said I picked it out so I know it's not fake and she finally shut up. It was like she couldn't let up on the topic and I'm just appalled at how rude that was! Has anyone else ever been asked super rude questions about their rings?

Not like that, but DH's mother made some off color comment when he went home for a holiday right after we were engaged and he showed pictures something relating to 'must be nice to afford a ring like that' and then later on when his brother proposed to a girl he had been dating for a year (right out of college neither had a job both living with his parents) she posted something on facebook showing the ring all over how it was a family heirloom passed down made into what she would like and how much better a simple not flashy ring meant and some other bs. DH doesn't really associate with his family anymore and they didn't come to the wedding. She's petty and jealous.

One of my former friends told me "um that's a cute little ring." I took it as jealously because she's been with her boyfriend for 16 years and he's yet to purpose.

I don't have an engagement ring, because Im using my Great Aunts ring (she had her original wedding rings reset 50 years ago and left it to me when she passed). On Saturday, someone asked us when the wedding was. This gal who I have never met, says, lets see the huge diamond ring. I said, I don't have an engagement ring. She says, you mean you agreed to marry this guy without a big shiney engagement ring? Imthinking like, yeah, and the one I get to wear on my wedding day is probably worth more than yours! I just said, not everyone has to have an engagement ring - I have a beautiful diamond cocktail ring from my Great Aunt that she wore from the day she was married at 13 years old, until she died at 100 years old. people!

Mine is a black diamond with emeralds in the band. A lot of people say they like it because it's different. Some people don't understand why I would want that or that FH will upgrade to a "real diamond" one day, but this is what I wanted so I don't care.

Shortly after getting engaged, I ran into a former co-worker. And she proceeded to bitch at me because I didn't call her to let her know I got engaged. Sorry, I didn't know I had to inform her. She then looked at my ring and said "Wow, it's beautiful! It must be nice to be marrying someone who has a lot of money." She then went on to ask when the wedding was (we didn't have our date picked out yet...thank God) and pretty much invited herself and her family to the wedding.

I just ignored her rude comment. She's always been the type to be jealous of people that work hard and earn what they have, while she expects people to feel bad for her and give her (she calls them donations) things.

I hate rude people. Mine was a nice 3 stone knot ring that is not a "typical" engagement ring. Its a band style, and I love it. As a nurse I go through many pairs of gloves and bang my hands on lots of things. He picked a nice ring he could afford. We got 2 skinny diamond bands and I love how it turned out int he end. I love it because he picked it for me and did not go into massive debt for it! My set is on my left hand, Mom's is on the right.

I have a Princess Diana/Kate style ring, except for having a plain band, my ring has a diamond pave sides with a sapphire channel. It was designed by FH and handmade by his jeweler.

One friend looked at it and went "well at least if you lose it, there are a million other Diana rings out there. They are all over and not unique!" It took everything to bite my tongue and politely say "this one is slightly different."

A coworker did ask me if my ring was fake. She tried to play it off like she was joking, but she definitely wasn't. I can't imagine ever saying some of these things to people!

That is very rude! Even after you told her it wasn't fake, they persisted in telling you to get it checked out to make sure?? The nerve of some people...

I haven't had any rude comments yet, but I'm still very recently engaged and haven't been back to work yet (we got engaged while on vacation last Friday). I work in an office full of women and it's very much like being back in high school - there are cliques! I'm waiting for the nasty, jealous girls to flock over once they hear I'm back and engaged. At the very least I'm expecting to hear, "Is it real?" Mind you, one of these girls started working at the office and couldn't stop talking about her fiancé; flash-forward to 6 months later and she claims she was never getting married. Um, what?

Also - since I look really young even though I will be 25 in August - I'm expecting to hear "But you're so young!" when people see my ring when I'm out and about. I'm preparing myself for those conversations; it's really no one else's business, but some people don't know how to behave.

In the end, all that matters is that you're happy with the man you're marrying. So many people place too much emphasis on the size of the ring and I think that's just sad. I feel so honored and loved because a wonderful man has chosen me as his partner for life. The ring is just a symbol, but a lot of people seem to have forgotten this. How sad...

When we first got engaged, my brother said something about how small my diamond was, and my mom's response to him was "well, that's what happens when you get engaged in college." People make comments, you basically just have to let it go.

That was very rude....but chalk it up to people being .... well....people!

I think the rudest comment I have gotten was from FHs SIL (fast back story....she was with my FBIL for 3 years got engaged first and married first...this is how she sees things....so now shes better then me because me and FH have been together almost 10 years but she got it done first!) I went to a family BBQ and everyone wanted to see the ring and she came up and said..."oh its so plain is that even a Karate?" I replied with yes exactly a Karate and its exactly what I wanted! I didnt want some big goddy ring! She replies with well I see that. UGH people it is what it is....dont let it bother you

I had a gas station attendant actually say "Oh wow you know that is not a pink diamond, right?? That boy got you walking around thinking your finger is heavy"... The only previous conversation was "$20 on pump 3 please". She went on to tell me her boyfriend tried to put a CZ on her finger so she was looking out for me...

That is so rude. Why would a stranger make a comment like that anyway, it is non of their business. I haven't had any rude comments about my ring (to me/my face anyway). My ring in comparison to others depends on where I am. With our friends we are some of the most stable, so my ring is larger as most of them got married very young and did what they could at the time. At the office my ring looks like it came out of a gumball machine compared to some of these insane stones these girls are lugging around. I didn't land an engineer or a software developer like most of the girls I work with, but they are not mean to me about it. One girl got engaged right after me and got almost the same ring that I got, but twice as big.

I am happy with my ring, and that is all that matters. Sure, if I could have had no price limit, I would have liked a full karat center stone instead of the 1/2 karat I got (especially b/c the setting I picked was designed for a full karat and we had to have one specially made for me to size down the setting for the center and size down the side stones). But I got the style that I wanted and it is from FH and that is all that really matters. It is hard to keep in mind all the time, but "comparison is the thief of joy". Don't worry about what others think about your ring, as long as it is special to you for the sentimental reasons, that is all that matters. Someone who has the nerve to ask such a rude question is a B anyway, though I can understand why it upset you.

My ring is the tattoo you see in my avatar. We got matching engagement tattoos. It's how we wanted to do things. People are always like, "Oh that's neat..." Little do they know we have bling-ed out diamond wedding bands (to wear for special occasions and stuff like job interviews). I just know I didn't want to always have to wear a ring. I'm not much of a jewelry person and I fidget a lot with rings.

Ugh, people. My FH proposed with a 3-D printed ring. So yes, it was purple and plastic but I loved it and wore it proudly. No one believed me when I told them I got engaged. They would literally respond, yeah, right and assumed it was from a gumball machine. Um nope - it is a 3-D replica of the ring we designed together which happened to not be ready yet that my FH printed out himself. I think its fucking cool and plan to wear it again when I have to drop my ring back at the jeweler to get my band made. Don't let anyone's ridiculous cloud your joy.
