Too soon to buy a wedding dress?

Kylee, on April 19, 2020 at 8:46 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14
How close to the wedding did you buy your wedding dress? We’ve recently had to push back our wedding date to April of 2022. I found my absolute dream dress being sold on preowned wedding dresses for not even a quarter of the price. I want to get it because i know i won’t find a deal like that again but our wedding isn’t for 2 years now. Should i wait it out and hope something better comes along?

I would personally wait. 2 years is a long time and your weight can change, you may find another dress you love more and have dress regret, etc.

I bought my wedding dress January 2019 and my wedding is in October, so I’ve had it for quite a while now but I’ve never doubted my purchase! It was on sale when I bought it and I’ve never seen it go that low since, it was the first wedding dress I ever tried on and I knew it was the one before I even tried it on when I saw it online. Similar to live, when you know you just know! I also have been the sane size for over 10 years so I wasn’t concerned about gaining or losing a lot of weight. I say get it now as long as you won’t have doubts or wish you would have tried more dresses on first.

I would say if you absolutely know it's your dream dress , then get it! If you think you'll have doubts , don't get it. But I'd recommend getting a size up just in case you gain weight or may need alterations done. Better to have it taken in than out!

My wedding is in January 2022 and I bought my dress back in October 2019.... so as long as you're not someone who tends to doubt or change their mind a lot, then I say go for it! I don't regret buying early and I love my dress! Also be aware you have to make sure to watch your weight between now and then so that it still fits.

I am all about getting things done early. If you find a dress you love jump on it. It may go out of production, you may have a hard time finding it, you may find yourself in a different financial situation, there are so many things that can happen. When you get things done early you have less to worry about and less to plan for later. I ordered my dress 16 months before my wedding and the only reason I waited so long is because I wants my mother to see it as I went shopping along the first time. If I didn’t wait for her it would have been 19 months. And as soon as I had that squared away I went on to the next thing on my list. Get as much done as you can earlier because all these purchases add up quickly.

I found my dress and purchased it in 2017 for my 2020 wedding. My dress was no longer being made, so I had to buy the sample dress if I wanted it in the color I wanted.

I brought my dress last May for our May wedding this year... we had to postpone to August bc of COVID-19... 2 years is a long time for more dress styles to come out but i think if it’s your absolute dream dress ... why wait? Two years is also a lot of time for body changes so id maybe get one size up. It will be way easier for alterations to take in than to take out. Good luck ❤️

If this is your dream dress and you could have regrets later, I say get it!

I would personally say wait because I got my dress off a preowned site almost 2 years before my wedding and I had dress regret later on that led me to end up shopping for a new dress. But if you are sure you won’t have regrets then I say go for it!

I bought my dress 9 months before my wedding. I personally would not buy a dress 2 years before my wedding. A lot can change in 2 years (your body, styles, your wedding vision).

Have you been dress shopping yet? If you haven't, I would definitely wait and go shopping when stores open up. There is nothing like the experience of being in a salon and it also helps you figure out what you want - my dream dress ended up not working out for me! Just didn't look right.

If you have tried it on, know that you want it, and know that you aren't going to want to look at other dresses - then go ahead! I would not want to commit to a dress 2 years in advance, but some people know themselves and what they want!

I bought mine almost a year before the wedding and the alterations were finished 6 months before (thankfully or I'd be stressed to the max right now waiting to get my dress back!).

The big thing is trying to avoid major weight/size changes if you buy that early, or buy a size up so it can be taken in if you gain a little weight before you're ready to get it altered.

I got engaged Feb 8th 2014. I started looking in June. It came in October. And I’m getting married in August hopefully. 2 years is a long time from now I suggest waiting it out. Your figure can change so I don’t suggest looking yet.

I bought my wedding dress two years before my wedding and the biggest challenge has been weight fluctuation so you just have to be aware of that, but if you love it, buy it
