Too much black for a wedding??

Emily, on January 15, 2020 at 5:30 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

My wedding dress is black and my bridesmaids will be in gold sequin dresses (both pictured below). My FH wants to be in all black as well as his groomsman in all black. I am worried it will be too much black and look like a funeral. Opinions needed! Am I being crazy?

Maybe have the groomsmen in a tie that has color to match the bridesmaids?

You can't delete comments, WW mods keep everything up for future references. I think you'd have to email them to have them take the comment down.

But I love this!!! Do you have other colors besides just black? You could do guys in black vests and pants instead of full suits with jackets.

Yes. Our wedding colors are Darker Jewel Tones, so Dark Magenta, Emerald Green, Sapphire Blue, a Dark Amethyst, etc. we are accenting with Gold and Black. To me having myself in black and then all the guys in black will just look weird. Originally I was wanting my FH to be in a colored Tux jacket with black pants (pictured below) but he doesn't like that idea.

Maybe pick one of the dark jewel tones and have the guys in that? I like Vanessa's suggestion of gold ties to match your BMs.

I don’t think it’s too much black for a wedding, and I think any time gold sequins are involved it sure doesn’t look like a funeral! Smiley winking

My only concern would be you guys blending in too much when the groomsmen. So I think the idea of the groomsmen in a colored/maybe gold tie is a good one. Sounds like a nice way to coordinate them with the bridesmaids and yet set you and your groom apart in all black

My best friend suggested having the Groomsmen in gold sequined jackets Smiley xd Smiley xd Smiley xd

I just don't want to blend in with the guys is my main thing. My dress is a black Lazaro which is super sparkly. And I don't mind FH being in all black but it's the Groomsmen that are throwing me off.

I kinda like it. But I’m also not super traditional or into following guidelines. Maybe adding texture would break it up a little? So it would still be black but of a different texture/type of fabric.

Or as someone suggested, having ties be a different color if you want less black. Or the groomsmen can have a jewel toned jacket but keeping everything else mostly black (since it sounds like you guys like the black). I like jackets of varying colors with a black trim (are those lapels?).

I do think that is a lot of black and might not look the greatest in photos. What about the guys having black suits, but white dress shirts. Or even eliminate the black suit coat completely, and have them wear white dress shirts.

    1. I love your dress 😍
    2. I love your bridesmaids dresses!
    3. I also like the idea of adding texture. Maybe FH in a velvet jacket?4. As for groomsmen, you could have them not wear jackets, or wear a jewel-tone suit or tux, as you said they are some of your other wedding colors?
    Good luck!

I really like the idea Vannesa said - having the groomsmen have a tie that match the bridesmaids dresses. That would look super nice and also change up the black so it doesn't seem overwhelming.

I would have the guys were gold ties like Vanessa suggested. However, I think your fiance should have the final say since it is his side of the bridal party.

Could your groom be in all black and the groomsmen wear white button down shirts? Or rose gold shirts?

    Hey!
I personally think that all black will look striking and elegant.
Dare to be different.Use the flower colors to pop and set the bridesmaids apart from the groomsmen.Different textures would be awesome! My mama always said, when you want your clothes to look extra nice and classy , go for black over a color choice.
Go for it! I'm also a huge fan of blue black...so dark of a blue that it appears black. Or a dark plum.
So excited to see your pictures!❤

Thank you everyone for your advice.

I do like the idea of different textures for the jackets I will look into that. We are having a very formal black tie wedding so the no jacket or just vests wouldn't work well. I will also look into matching the groomsmen's ties to the gold of the bridesmaid's dresses hopefully I can find a match!
