Too Many Items on the Registry

Brewedwithlove2016, on February 26, 2016 at 11:22 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21

Hello everyone! FH husband and I made our registry the other day. At first we didn't think we needed much, but after looking around we realized we need/wanted more stuff then we thought! We have 103 items on the registry. The most expensive thing is $154 and the next is $80. We invite 125 people, but is that too much stuff to put on a registry? Is $154 way too much money? Should we cut it down a bit? Thanks Smiley smile

Nah you're good. I would think you might want one or two more expensive things in case your parents, etc want to get something big.

I would just leave them on the registry.... after your wedding date the store will most likely offer you a discount to finish purchasing everything on your list.

I don't think you have too many at all. We invited 250 people and had about 200 items on our registry going all the way up to $300. We needed absolutely everything! As long as you hit every price point then your fine. People will surprise you when it comes to the big stuff.

Its not too much and whatever doesn't get bought can sometimes be purchased at a discount by you after the wedding (depending on where you registered)

We have 60 and are inviting 35. I realize we won't get everything, but at least this way there's a range of prices. that being said my sister has decided she does not purchase things from registries because she is an artiste---but the other 34 people will have plenty of options

Sounds fine to me, too. People will want to also use the registry for bridal shower gifts and such.

When we registered at BB&B, they said 2.5 gifts PER PERSON!! that seems totally obnoxious to me but I think yours sounds right on track!

I think you might even want to register for more. I worked at Bed bath and Beyond for about 3 years and I did help people with registering. You want to register for all price points. Some people might get you something big and have others pitch in. and some people might want to make a gift basket with kitchen gadgets. You want to make sure you give your guests options.

I wasn't sure what would be considered too expensive?

Macy's recommends twice the amount of gifts on a registry as people coming. Plus most places offer completion discounts so pile it on!

Just remember, a lot of people WANT to give you a gift. As someone who's been on her own since I was 18, this was a very hard concept for me to understand. Keep that in mind!

Secondly, I too felt guilty about putting "expensive" items on my registry but this is relative. As long as you have a healthy mix of price points, you'll be fine. My most expensive items was a Dyson vacuum and a Swash. Both have been purchased for us when I thought no one would gift them to us!

Thanks Kristina, we really need a vacuum but we didn't know if that would be too expensive to ask for.

A lot of stores recommend double the guest list. This is because there are generally showers and people like to buy things in multiple. Like if you register for a pizza stone, a friend may want to include the pizza cutter you registered for too.

As long as you don't have seven full sets of dishes or five crockpots on your registry you probably don't have too many items. Sometimes I think we have too many (140 guests and 220ish items) but then I remember that we have a lot of small things on there. An individual will probably not only buy us one $6 spatula or a single towel or washcloth. I know I usually buy a few smaller things for shower gifts unless there is one perfect item in my price range available.

I used the table below to do our registry. Bed Bath and Beyond recommended that we put double the number of gifts as people invited. They also reminded us that many people will send a gift who declined the invite as an I'm sorry. Therefore, we should be looking at the total invite list not just the people who we think are coming. Our registry has a lot of items on it, but I don't care if we don't get everything.

My family tends to go in together on larger gifts, so I'm not feeling bad about the $300 vacuum on our registry. It will save us from a dozen $25 tchatchkes.

I think its a good amount. It's good to have a range. I have things from chopping boards @ $12.00 to a luggage set @ $250.00 Surprisingly my FSIL bought both luggage sets already! So you never know who will buy what, it's great you gave a lot of options.
