Too late to send invites?

Jamie, on August 15, 2012 at 12:39 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

Due to limited space at our venue, we kept our guest list relatively small. Now that we've received enough no's on the RSVPs, we know we'll have space to invite some people from the secondary guest list. Our RSVP date is in two weeks (8/29) and the wedding is 9/29. Would it be rude or potentially offensive to send invites at this late date? We would love to have invited these folks earlier, but just weren't sure how the responses would pan out. Btw, the people who we would like to invite are my boss, a colleague, and a former colleague. My boss is retiring in a few months, so this wouldnt be a political invite -- I genuinely like him as a person!

If it is just 3 or 4 guests/invites I say go for it. Maybe even hand deliver them so you can tell then that you would love for them to attend.

Any chance they are print at home invites? If you could quickly get an RSVP printed with a date 3 weeks from now that would be nice. But not needed.

Hi Hayley, thanks so much for your response. We did letterpress through a vendor on Etsy, so I'm afraid it would be a bit pricey to reprint them (and I'm thinking there would probably be a rush fee). Too bad I didn't originally think to order RSVPs with two separate dates.

I think they all understand that you invite family to the wedding before colleagues. Just tell them how much you would appreciate if they could make it.

I would say go for it. I would not be offended if I got one. In fact I did get one like that a couple of years ago and quite frankly I was so happy to get it I really didn't care that I may have been if not B but C list!

Honestly, you can blame it on the post office lol. There were a few people that got last minute invites and I didn't change the RSVP date. Drop them in the mail ASAP and in a day or so, call said people and ask if they got it yet, if no, complain about the mail system.

Heck, kris JUST got an rsvp back in the mail and she has been married for 4 months now.

Do it! I like Hayley's idea. I'm actually ordering extra invitations, because I'm sure this will happen to me.

Thanks so much, ladies!!! I will definitely go ahead and send them. Since these are going to coworkers, I think mail is the best route (our office is small and I'm trying to be discreet).

And STBmrsH, I think you're exactly right. We received a late wedding invite a few years ago, and we were so, so happy to get to go.
