To hyphenate or not to hyphenate that is the question???

Ladies how are you going to change your name? Will you change it at all or hyphenate it? I have always thought I was okay with dropping my maiden name completely but what are the pros and cons of using a hyphen? How did you make your decision?

My fiance and I listed all the options and their pros and cons. Our problem with hyphenating is that if we have a child someday and that child marries someone with a hyphenated name, then they would have four names! And then if they had a child who married someone with a hyphenated name... Is this scenario completely unrealistic? Yes, but we are programmers and cannot pick a name that could possibly lead to a recursive loop! lol And it didn't sound quite right either... We talked about him taking my name, but decided that Nick N. didn't sound as good as Amy M. (I am keeping my maiden name as an additional middle name though.)

I am not changing. I know I can go to court later to change my name but at this point I am not changing my name. It is complicated but I was adopted by my dad and waited years to legally use this name. I am not going to get upset if someone calls me by his name or I am introduced by someone as X but I prefer to be introduced as this is margie she is married to tim or tim is her husband. not this is tims wife and no name at all.

My name is already hyphenated. I plan to drop my second last name, add my first last name as a hyphenated middle name, and just add FHs last name as my new last name. My first of the two last names is unique and I want to keep it. :-)

I thought about hyphenating but then my name would have 37 letters in it and that is just too much. I'm not doing it dropped the idea after I did the math. I'm thinking of just leaving my name alone.

In changing my name to his because it means to me that we are "one" it means that I'm leaving this "single" part of me behind and joining to my husband and we are "one" "Mr & Mrs C."
