TMI: After 5 LASER hair treatments....

Jennifer, on May 20, 2011 at 12:13 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

I'm hair free on my upper lip and chin! Good bye Eastern European hairy lip! HA!

BEST thing I could have done!

Went in last night for the final treatment before the wedding and she was searching for straglers compared to her basically lasering the entire area.

If you guys are ever considering LASER hair removal, its Awesome! I got a groupon coupon for 75% off 3 treatments and then paid regular price the last two sessions. The entire package would have cost me about $1000 when I only paid about $400!!!!! :-))))))

I'm with you on that one! I had gotten a Living Social deal for 6 treatments for $99. I LOVE it!!!! I did the bikini area. I am hoping another one pops up soon because I want my underarms done next! I would so do my legs if I had that kind of extra money!

Congrats, it's amazing, best thing ever (although it hurts like a butt)... I get those treatments too! Unibrow and upper lip are almost smooth as a baby's butt!

Awesome. So no pain? Also no irritation to the area? That is what concerns me the most

That's awesome! I'm going for my second sesssion this weekend for my lower legs! I didn't feel really anything at my first session. And I'm hoping to not have to shave much while away for our wedding and honeymoon! I also got a deal online: $99 for 6 sessions.

Someone on here (I think it was Sharon) said that is feels like a rubber band smacking your skin...and that is exactly how it feels. The pain is rather minimal....but depends on the area you are getting done. One thing that helped is that I iced the area up pretty good right before she goes in for the kill. And then iced again afterwards while driving home. Redness was gone after several hours. This last time, I "winged it" and didnt ice it. Now chin is a little swollen. oops.

I do notice that the more times you go, the more the lasers' power is boosted to get those feisty hairs outta there. So it stings a little bit more compared to the first session.

    TOTALLY WORTH IT. :-)

Good to know! I have my appts set up to do this but I don't know anyone that actually has! I think I'm gonna try your trick of icing it. I'm worried about the pain!

I also got treatments for my chin and since there was a "buy one area, get one free" special going, I got my armpits done too. I have to agree...it has been amazing and I would definitely recommend it. I'm not done with my treatments yet but the results so far are outstanding. Plus I will love not having to shave my armpits especially for the summer months!

The doctor that I went to ices the area as well and I do agree that it helps a lot! I hardly felt it during most of it. Only every once in a while did I feel what I can only describe as a pin prick.......just hurts for a second and then it's gone. Not bad at all! I didn't even have an issue with any redness or puffiness. I highly recommend it!!!

Was 6 sessions enough for bikini area (I've seen those $99 deals as well but I figured I'd need more than 6 sessions)

    Mona -

Some parts are more painful than others. Legs/armpits, not too bad. Bikini line, a bit more sensitive. Face most sensitive, and upper lip = tears for me. It is a temporary hurt, but it does hurt. No ice where i go for numbing, but they will provide a numbing cream. Weird thing is you can't even tell after. They give you chilled allow and I put that on and walk out. No redness at all!

Thanks! Another quick question, I heard that you have to shave the area first? Is that true? My concern would be shaving the upper lip. Thoughts?

I do shave it between times, b/c there is regrowth. Important note: You cannot pluck or wax in between. So shaving is the alternative. Also, it does not work on blond hairs, like those peach fuzz ones some women have. It only works on dark hair.

It can be more challenging if your skin is also dark (from your picture it looks like it is). There are two types of lasers, one for lighter skin and one for darker skin. Also you cannot get sun exposure in between. They make you wait anywhere between 6 - 10 weeks between treatments. My whole process is going to take almost 1 and a half years.

I had 3 treatments on my bikini area, and have just purchased a Living Social deal for 6 more as that was not enough. I also had my underarms done....same thing, 3 treatments then 6. I used numbing cream....worked awesome. The last treatment for my underarms the cream wasn't on there long enough and it hurt....a lot. So, I'd recommend the cream...most places will sell it. For myself, I'm going to need a couple more treatments on the underarms...I'm guessing it was because I used two different locations, and as someone said, they do increase the laser each time, so they started over the second session and it just wasn't enough. But it is still great!

I had 6 sessions total, but since I was getting two areas done (upper lip and chin), I technically had 3 sessions using the coupon. i added 2 more on top of that. They said that usually 5 sessions does the most of it and then you go in for maintenance sessions at a cheaper price (aka get the stragglers that refuse to die!).

I waited 4 weeks in between sessions and it seems like I could have gone in every 3 weeks.

Im olive skinned with thick, black hairs (thanks to being eastern european). The blonde hairs are the most difficult to remove, so luckily, my black hairs mostly disappeared after maybe the 2nd session. :-)

Im sooooo glad I did it.

This is a horrible thought as to why I considered laser:

What if I was in a horrific accident and was in a coma....my upper lip and chin would mistake the nurses for me being a dude instead of a chick. I know....sick. :-)
