Tipping Vendors in unique situations - Help!

Jessica, on January 28, 2022 at 11:39 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 2

Venue - we are getting married at a venue that is owned by a friend of mine and her husband. She has been amazing with guidance and she also acts as a day of planner - what would be an appropriate tip?
DJ - he owns the company but also brings an assistant - so I’m confused on how much to tip and if I tip the assistant Photographer and second shooter and videographer - contracted out from a bigger company, so I don’t know what percentage of what I paid actually goes to them and so not sure how much to tipAnd lastly my bartenders - the Main one owns the company and he brings a second bartender. We are providing all ice, supplies and liquor and he puts out a tip jar. Still want to tip him but how much?

I guess you are suppose to tip 20%. I personally feel like their work should show for how much to tip them. I have heard that if your bartender puts out a tip jar you don't need to tip them because they are encouraging your guest to tip them instead but to each is their own. As for your venue, since she is also acting as your day of planner I would tip her the 20% (for me, I would tip as long as her work shows for it). I would also tip the DJ and photographer both accordingly because they're bring in help.

For me, my dad thought me how to tip, he always told me that if the service showed for it's self and if I didn't have to ask or chase them down then they would get a good tip. I don't follow this new gratuity tip because some service doesn't always need to be tip, I get they are taking time of their day and all but I am also taking the risk in hoping that they will be on time, professional and their work is up to my expectations or for what they are charging me. I'm sure some wont agree with me but by the end of the day I don't want to feel cheated or that I should have went with someone else because they were rude or rushed the process or didn't even bother to be professional because they knew I wouldn't be able to get someone else at short noticed.

Hope this helps, Good luck and Happy Planning.

Thank you for the reply!! Makes a lot of sense honestly! And since I’m tipping at the end of the night I can always adjust I guess. Hard to budget for all of the little things that go into a wedding! Have a great day!
