Tipping the Venue Owner

First don't tip before you can objectively assess their performance during planning and the day of. Wait till after your honeymoon to do so. A tip is a thank you for going above and beyond the call of duty, business owner or not. A tip does not go to someone just for showing up, bad/mediocre service or a no show.

I agree with the first post, def. wait till after everything is over to decide. I do suggest writing a thank you card to the venue owner.

As far as I know, none of our friends and family tipped their venues. They just wrote a thank you card, and if anything extra, they did a gift basket. We didn't plan on tipping our venue, we were going to do a thank you note and gift basket like everyone else we knew!

I'll also add that when I googled tipping practices for weddings, the tipping for a venue went to attendees such as: valets, coat storage, waiters, etc. We do intend on tipping anyone that is helping out with moving chairs/tables and also directing cars!
