Tiny diamond fell out of setting? Help!!!

Munchkin9218, on June 5, 2017 at 7:22 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

Help! One of the very small diamonds in my ring setting has fallen out and I'm not sure when it happened or where it would be and its so small I don't think I'll be able to find it!! What's even more frustrating is we only just got engaged in April and have not been able to insure it yet. But it's only two months old!!! Has anyone ever had to pay for replacing a small diamond?? What was the cost??

Here is a photo. It's so small you can barely even see it's missing

If you had your ring resized, this commonly happens. I have a protection plan on mine where they will just replace it. If your jeweler offers that, i would buy the plan asap.

We have the paperwork for insurance but it's all listing FH as the primary which makes it slightly more expensive. We're working on getting all the quotes in my name since I'm the wearer. It's just hard because I work three jobs and FH works two so our free time is very limited. I definitely want to take it to the jeweler we bought it from but FH doesn't want to bc he knows we will have to pay bc we've been unable to get it insured yet. I'm very frustrated with him and about to just take it myself

@alyssachu why? Is it fairly inexspensive? If it's like 150 or less I can definitely pay out of pocket I just don't know how much it would be or even how many carats those tiny diamonds are individually

@OP, it's probably less than $200 to replace a tiny diamond like that. It wouldn't be worth going through insurance.

FYI, if you're concerned about the ring, you shouldn't be wearing it until it's insured. It's not really just on your FH to do this. You've been engaged two months, you have to prioritize it.

Okay that is good to know! That's what i was unsure about! FH disagrees about taking it to the jeweler but I'm glad to know my instinct seemed right. I will take it myself later today if I have to.

@Vicki I did not say it was on him. I said originally the quotes had come in his name but we realized that made the quotes more expensive since he is not the wearer and we are working on getting new quotes in my name to get the best policy.

The cost of the actual diamond will probably be small, but you will have to probably pay for labor. Go back to your jeweler and explain.

Edit- also ask him/her to check all of the other diamonds in the setting (they should do this automatically but I'd say it anyway).

Get it replaced. The ring shouldn't have loose diamonds so soon.

One of my diamonds fell out of my band a few weeks ago. I took it to the jeweler and it will cost about $350 to replace the diamond and tighten up the prongs of all the rings. Sorry this happen. Make sure they inspect the prongs.

This happened to me too. I got engaged a little over two months ago, and I noticed a stone missing last night. Not sure when or where it fell off since I work at a pre-school, was on the playground, and play games with my students. What would I do?

Sorry, I replied to this comment in particular because my fiancé said he already had it resized once to fit me. It's a .25 of a size too big so I am constantly adjusting my ring, which is why I had to have lost it in a very short window of time...
