Time’s ticking, choose venue or keep looking?

My heart is set on a wedding in September or October. I found a couple places in budget, both I like in different ways. They seem to book very fast! They both have a date left in September and/or October. I tour with both venues this Sunday and I’m tempted to just immediately put down a deposit if we love it in person on the spot. One is well known, Noah’s Event Venue and another venue locally that looks similar.

However, there’s another venue we are touring next Tuesday. I’ve always wanted to get married there but the more I learn about it the more I question it. It’s industrial yet romantic, near downtown, beautiful skyline of the city, and you can bring your own alcohol. Sounds good except the only room they have left available (two dates open September) is very unique. It’s split level, the top is where we eat, it overlooks downstairs where it’s the dance floor (like a hole in the middle of the floor lol). I have to see it in person to get a feel. See here: https://www.dock580.com/the-loft-1

From reviews, people said it wasn’t an issue being split level. It holds like 180-200 but it looks tight.

Anyway, do I visit the venues Sunday and decide immediately so I don’t risk losing the dates? Or do I wait until Tuesday to see if the place I’ve thought I always wanted will be the one?

Congrats on finding so many venues you love! A few venues I visited let me hold the date for 3-5 days without a payment, so you can always ask if there’s that option. That way you could feel more comfortable touring the last venue on Tuesday.

My mom really wanted to jump the gun on the first venue (but the stone walls, Megan!) but I’m really glad I waited to find the perfect place. Pictures are good but you never know until you actually get into the space. The Loft you listed is a great example of this. It may be awkward to move around, but maybe not. You won’t know until you’re there.

    Good luck!!

That is a good idea! Many say they don't hold dates unless it's signed by contract and deposited has been submitted but I know many of them go through DocuSign for paperwork and deposits take time so I'm hoping there is an option to be "in contract" to hold off another two days.

Yes, I saw the first venue I thought I was going to go with but when I went there in person we did not like anything about it at all lol.

Yes I agree with PP. if you love one this weekend ask if you can hold it until Tuesday when you see the other one then make a decision. A few days should be ok.

I agree with this as well. See if they will hold it a few days without deposit. If not, ask if they can at least let you know should someone else inquire for the same day. I’ve had a few people mention this that we met with while we were deciding on options. We toured two places, with a third place scheduled, but we loved the second one so much we booked it right there and canceled the third. So if you love it, its ok to just go for it! My prom (way back when lol) was in a venue like you’re describing, where dinner was upstairs and dancing was below, in a loft style floor plan (hole in the middle). It worked out fine, and actually made for great views of the dancing!

That's good to hear. Also, I'll see if I can do that at the very least... lol!

Make sure to also compare other things the venue includes like if they provide tables and chairs, arch, decorations etc. That was a factor for me. My venue was a bit pricey but it included beautiful farmhouse tables, benches, X back chairs, and arch and some decorations. And we are using it for a welcome dinner, ceremony and reception.

All the venues we saw gave us the option to hold the date without a down payment for a week, most of them much longer and told me they would call me if someone else requested the date. I was ready to pull the trigger on the spot for pretty much every decision haha. Luckily I have a very calm and level headed fiancé that really made us think about each decision. In the end I got the venue that was best for us on a great date.
I wouldn’t pull the trigger sunday, I asked them to hold the date for a few days and honestly if they say they can’t do that, that wouldn’t be a vendor I’d want to work with. One of my big final decision makers in a venue was how easy it was to work the the coordinator. If he or she is going to start it off being more concerned with getting the space rented out than making your dream wedding come true, I’d be over that space immediately.

My friend got married in a place like the linked venue and it was really cool! It was a ton of fun and it was nice because everything was separated. It was super cool.

So far everyone’s been saying that! The reviews, my boss, my sister... now I have to see it lol. I really like the look because it’s not the typical banquet ballroom.
