Time off around Wedding during the school year

Anna, on March 25, 2020 at 8:14 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7
Hi, so I’m a school teacher and getting married in October. Since it’s when kid’s will be at school, it’s not easy to get off. I earn 2 personal days a year for such and I might have earned 3 by then, maybe not quite. Anyways, we’re really only planning a short weekend honeymoon after the wedding on Saturday which is going to be low-key. Just not sure if I really need to take off Friday or would rather have Monday and Tuesday off. I know we’ll be decorating Friday evening and possibly Saturday morning, but with the family and friends I’ll be having help I doubt it’ll take long.

Could you do a delayed honeymoon during when students have time off?

We’re thinking we’ll do a longer trip next summer or maybe spring break. For that weekend we’re just planning to go to a cabin in the mountains a few hours away.

I’m also a teacher and getting married in October. I think my state may be more giving than yours, I get 10 sick days a year, which includes 3 personal days. So I definitely have over 15 sick days to use. My wedding is Saturday and I plan on taking off Thursday- Monday (so 3 days). I don’t feel bad at all because it is my one and only wedding day after all, and I don’t want to be stressed wishing I had taken more time off. We aren’t doing a honeymoon until June.

I would prefer taking Friday off for my peace of mind, so I could feel on top of decorating and organizing. If you have someone who is taking point on organizing, though, maybe you don't need Friday off.

I’ve got a ton of sick time (worked for the state for 7yrs, left for a year and then came into the school system), and we earn decent annual leave but the annual leave can only be used when students are not in (optional workdays and to cover weather closings), and then the personal leave is to allow for time off when students are in.

I’m torn between taking Fri & Mon or Mon & Tue.

Friday and Monday Smiley smile I. My opinion. I'm a bhevaior analyst and we work with the school systems schedule. Very similar... Here we just work all year round. January 2021 is our wedding and we will be going on our honeymoon February 2021 to Tennessee and relax away in a cabin.

Enjoy and see what will have you less stressed

Funny, I am a teacher with an October wedding!! I took the Friday and Monday off and was very glad I did! If I had to pick one, pick the Friday.
