Time of day for Engagement photos

Anna, on April 11, 2019 at 8:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 34
Hello,
Just wondering what time did all of you get your engagement photos made?

I was thinking of requesting a 300pm appointment. Is that to early in the day? Photos will be outside. Not sure of the location yet.

We will have them done on May 4th.

Thank you in advanceSmiley smile

Your photographer will recommend a time. The light is the best at sunrise and sunset. We just had our outdoor pictures on Monday and the photographer recommended to start at 7pm.

I think you should really talk to your photographer about this they know the best time of day to take pictures I took my a few weeks ago and out photographer suggested to start at 4 because there’s good lighting at that time we also took our pictures outside in a shady area.

I say do early day so the sun is not fully on top of you or do sunset. I would prefer an hour before sunset so the sun is setting, is not hot and you get the gorgeous golden hour.

Your photographer should recommend a time. But yes, you should aim for “golden hour”, where you’ll get the most beautiful natural lighting. For our early October engagement shoot we started around 6, and for our wedding in July, we took some photos a little after the ceremony, around 7-7:15. Check for times right before sunset and consult with your photographer.

    Ok ty!
Our wedding will be at 2pm...does that mean the pictures will be of poor quality?

Most photographers will tell you to do it an hour before sunset for ideal lighting

Depending on where you are 3-4 pm is usually the hottest time of day in summer. I agree with PPs that later may be better for lighting, but a pro should be able to get well lit pictures at any time of day Smiley smile We are having a sunset beach session this summer, so probably later like 7 or so

We opted for a 90 min session. Started it an hour before sunset so we got a variance here are some examples.

Professional photographers usually know how to handle different lighting situations, so don’t sweat it! It’s just that golden hour has the most flattering lighting, so most photographers recommend that route.

We did 5:00 am 😂 we were doing a beach shoot and our photographer suggested capturing the sunrise as she had previously done sunrise shoots on the beach before and they were beautiful. Definitely would not recommend anything that early (whoops, I was too excited to think about it more), but your photographer will definitely suggest what’s best based on the images/look you want to capture and the lighting they can get

Ha ha I understand! I'm an insomniac so I could probably stay up until 5am...not sure how good I would look. I'd love to see some of your pictures too, if you don't mind.
