Time for an updo...

MICHELLE, on November 11, 2011 at 10:20 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

Im getting a bunch of mixed messages about how long it really takes to do an updo...some are telling me 30 mins, others are saying a full hour...what's the deal? how long does it REALLY take? i was told 10-15 min to set the hair and then 10-15 min to complete the updo once the hair is down...i'm talking BMs here...i know my hair as the bride would be longer, but 30 mins? is that right?!

I would allot for at least an hour. Everyone's hair is different & in order to get the look you want, you don't want to rush things. You should have some "cushion" time built into your wedding day schedule for your hair appointments. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Maybe a hairstylist could get a fairly simple updo done in 30 mins, but absolutely give it a full hour. At the salon we got our hair and make up done, they booked us for an hour, and while the BMs were probably done between 30-45 mins, it is definitely better to have 15 extra minutes left over than to plan for less time than you need and be 15 minutes behind.

Yea, I would say for the sake of not stressing yourself out on the day of the wedding... give at least an hour for hair

Right, and thats what i want to do, however, they're all like "no, no, we'll arrive at x time and have you done, 'trust me'," and i'm completely honest with them, that i dont see how it's possible, but they are insisting...i cant FORCE anyone to show up earlier OR bring more staff...if i push hard enough, i can probably get them to agree but then who knows what will happen the day of...they may just show up when they originally planned or however many stylists will show up that they are willing to pay, and then what do i do?? =[

So, just make your appointments 30 min earlier than you originally wanted. or

Tell them you need to be out of there by 11:30 (even though it is really 12) You get the idea. That way you have a 30 min buffer in there just in case.

I agree with Hayley it's always good to have a buffer. Things never start or end on time.

Right, but problem is...i'd rather have more staff than buffer in time and start earlier...why...? well, we have to leave by 8am, which means hair/makeup needs to be completely done by 730am...plus its me + 9 other people...we're already pushing it saying we will start at 5am, and theyre saying with just 3 stylists, they'll be able to do everyone in 2.5 hrs...?!!? i just want them to bring more stylists...if i say, oh we have to be ready at 7, then we're starting at 430, which means getting up at 330 to shower and dry our hair out... and we're having the rehearsal dinner the night before (and prob wont be getting to bed until midnight AT LEAST) because some of my BMs are out of state...

Ouch that is really early. Is scheduling additional stylists an issue? Will there be an additional cost for that?

Its not even that...they're not even offering to bring more stylists...because reality is, thats less updos per stylists which is less $ per person, i would honestly be willing to pay an added fee to have more stylists, but they are like we dont have that many people to bring that early in the morning =\

i know its really early, trust me, i'm not TOO happy about it myself...but i fell in love with a venue and we just CANNOT afford to have a night wedding...so we are doing an 1130am start time at the venue, which means in order to have time for pictures, we are having the ceremony at a nearby church at 930... =\

Only other solution I can think of.... and I don't think you will like it..... is send some to a different salon.

Otherwise, just trust that they can do it. ~good luck~

Generally it's easier to style hair that isn't perfectly clean anyway (I know this doesn't have anything to do with your time line, sorry). I was told to wash my hair the night before instead of that morning.
