Thoughts on Friday night wedding?

FutureMrsS, on June 7, 2016 at 12:57 PM

The venue I'm considering is offering a significant discount for a Friday instead of Saturday. Is it inconsiderate to have a Friday night wedding when most of our guests will be traveling?

I'm doing a Friday ... I chose Friday because A. Budget and B. Available date.... Sure I'd like to make all my guests happy and my OOT guests as well but to properly host and stay in budget had to go with Friday.

Mine is on a Friday because it was A LOT cheaper. I agree with everyone else, it is the new normal and not an issue for most.

I'm having a Sunday brunch wedding because it's way cheaper. Also, who doesn't love brunch? I'm honestly hoping to get some declines because I love intimate weddings. Most of our out-of-towners are going to attend the rehearsal dinner as well, which will be on Saturday night, so it might actually be easier on some people. I don't see anything wrong with having a non-Saturday wedding as long as you accept the reality that you might get a few more declines.

We are having a Friday evening wedding, it saved us a lot of money. We have a lot of out of town guests coming that were going to take vacation time anyway to make the trip, so it being on a Friday evening didn't really affect them much.

Have you thought about a Sunday wedding? Sunday weddings are usually the same price as Friday weddings but a bit more convenient because you have Saturday to travel.

Nothing wrong with that!!! We are having a friday wedding due to the price difference. But we are also having a smaller wedding of only 100, family and closest friends, whom none of them have complained that it's on a friday! Do what works best for you Smiley smile Also, I'd rather do a friday than a sunday, I think they're more fun because you dont have that gloomy "tomorrow is monday" feeling!

Our wedding is on a Thursday from 7-12am (That is my mother's b'day! She is deceased so I chose that date to honor her)...and changing our date WAS NOT an option! If your family and friends want to be there...THEY WILL and if not....THEIR LOST!

Added bonus: it was $13,000 cheaper than Saturday!!!

I am doing a Friday night (6pm start time) my vips had to leave work early for photos. But it was fine for them.

Alot of my oot guests would have had to take friday anyway so it worked out okay for us. Everyone seems fine with it. I thought it was better than sunday since sunday you have to leave early to get to work monday

Honestly. My brothers or close friend could get married on a Tuesday. And i would be there. Your vips will make it - and a lot of others will too

I went to a Friday night wedding last year. People left early because they were tired from working during the day. I think that was the only downfall the wedding had for being on a Friday.

Don't worry about it. You have to do what is best for you! My wedding is a Friday wedding, too!

I got married on a Sunday vs Friday. Same thing though. If you can make it great, if you can't make it because of money, limited time off or whatever, than that's okay too. It's not a big deal. The choice is up to the guest, pretty simple!

I think I'll be in the same boat as you. I am planning on makimg sure the drinks and food were amazing and free to guests since they most guests will be coming into town. I know the likelihood of guests will be lower, and I also plan to send STD well in advance so people can plan their vacation time accordingly.

We are having a Friday wedding 6:30pm, the last few weddings we have been to have been Fridays (with the exception of one Sunday wedding) Most of our guests we talk to and see on a regular basis so they are all aware. We have a small group of people coming out of state and plan to reserve a hotel block if they plan to come but we will totally understand if they can't come because of the date we planned. It is what it is Smiley smile

I'm not a fan of Friday weddings but at the same time I wouldn't decline just because it's on a Friday. Just keep in mind if you have a lot of out of town guests then it may be an inconvenience for them to take off the extra time for work. (Assuming they'd probably take off Thursday and Friday) I would just talk to them and get a general consensus on if they'll be okay with that

People seem to hate them here, but I did it. A lot of people didn't make the ceremony and a lot of people honestly left earlier than I have seen at Saturday weddings, but it was fine.

ETA: Over half of our guests were retired, working part time, or did not work typical Monday-Friday 9-5 schedules, so we didn't get a lot of declines due to work.
