Thoughts on cupcakes?

We went with cupcakes and I agree with another PP that its really just a personal preference. One thing I liked about the cupcakes was they were easier to transport and many of our guests took some home with them. It helped prevent a lot of left over cake which I have heard can be common. We ordered to-go containers for the cupcakes (which you can get cheap and I highly suggest doing) so if a guest did not want cake at the event but wanted to take it home to enjoy later, they could do so. If you want cupcakes, get cupcakes. Some may not like it but you cannot please everyone.

I love cupcakes (and pretty much most desserts), so I'm perfectly happy with them. However, I believe this is sort of a "know your crowd" think from what I've noticed at weddings I've attended. Some people get really weird if there isn't a traditional wedding cake, or if they see a cake for cutting but then are only served cupcakes or other non-cake desserts (usually the older guests).

It didn't dawn on me until we started cake shopping, but the one bakery I spoke with mentioned that cupcakes have become popular as many venues will charge a cake cutting fee (great way to sidestep that!).

I love the idea of cupcakes!! It's a lot less money and they look adorable!!

We are having cupcakes. As a Baker myself, I want to offer a variety of flavors instead of just plain vanilla cake/vanilla frosting that you typically see.
