Thoughts on a "sheer" wedding dress

Hi ladies!! I'm new & newly engaged!! I was wondering what your thoughts on a "sheer" wedding dress are. I love them & think they are very stylish & sexy! I can't help but to like the dress idea but also doubt it at the same time.. HELP! (Picture for example)

I personally hate them on anyone. I don't think I've ever seen one where I was like "oh yeah that's so cute!" To me, it looks like they never finished the dress but you're paying full price for a dress with less fabric and I think that's absurd. I think outfits like that are better suited skirtless as lingerie. I don't think they are the appropriate choice for a wedding, I would never want my dad or grandparents or DH's brothers and parents to see me in that, and it's definitely not appropriate for a church ceremony. That said, I know they are popular in some crowds and were especially popular a few years back (most notably on SYTTD) so if it's for you, try one on and see how you like it. If you have doubts now and especially after trying one on, you'll most likely have dress regret if you get it. Tread carefully here. Depending on your crowd of wedding guests, you could be praised or you could be gossiped about behind your back.

I think that dress and all sheer wedding dresses look like trash. I had never seen them before joining this site and am surprised at the number of them posted on here. I just think they're inappropriate, no matter how informal your wedding is.

I'll be honest, it's not my cup of tea. The top looks like lingerie instead of part of a gown. Not classy at all. If you want something sexy I would suggest a plunging back or something similar

That would be a huge nope from me. I want to feel beautiful and confident on my wedding day and walking down the aisle in front of my family in that wouldn't do it for me.

I cringe every time I see a bride with one of these dresses. I don't think they are appropriate. I always think 3 things:

    1. Where is the rest of her dress?

    2. I hope there are no children at the wedding

    3. Not to body shame but if you're flaunting all your goods out there I better have seen you on the runway. No humps, lumps, or bumps!

ETA: number 3 is a general statement. I have no idea what you actually look like. I assume the dress is a random pic on a random person.

    I just don't think it's pretty.

The boning over the breasts, like fingers clawing at them, and then the lines across the bodice pointing down at the crotch. The low slung skirt that just hangs there. It's not a nice dress. You have a BEAUTIFUL body (I have no idea what Jamie's talking about with humps and lumps) but this is just not flattering to it.

It kind of looks like the dress from a bad sitcom where the guy gets knocked on the head and thinks he's marrying the stripper from the bachelor party. It looks like the dress she would wear to that, before he gets his memory back and gets back together with his true love.

Welcome to wedding planning! This might be the first of a million ideas that you have that seem like a good idea until you consider the practical application. However, if you are really still drawn to it a month or two from now, maybe you would find one with just sheer panels on the sides or back. If you love it, be sure to keep at least an element of it. Good luck!

You can get a sheer dress that looks elegant and classy. This, however, is not one of them.

That dress is fugs. No offense. There are plenty of ways to look sexy on your wedding day without having a see through dress. Google "illusion dress" or find one the shows off your curves like a mermaid or fit and flare. Either way you do it make sure its subtle and classy.

Inappropriate. I cringe when people on Say Yes to the Dress put them on, they look so cheap and trashy.

Your dress and wedding day is for you. As long as it is appropriate for your ceremony location.

Not my style but to each their own.

I think there are other ways to be sexy on your wedding day. Its not very elegant or classy.

I'm not a fan of these either, even the "real' ones. It's trying too hard, and this one is dying trying.

There are many, many dresses that will make you look gorgeous, tasteful, elegant and bride-y; this isn't one of them.

It's modern, and there are tons of beautiful dresses like that. The one in the pic I dont like, it looks like a bra with a skirt.

It also depends on your style, your body (this dress is not for every type of body), and your ceremony place - if its in a church, then is a no no.

There's no way that any family member needs to see the bride in anything resembling honeymoon lingerie. Even on for a beach/casual wedding, it just seems really disrespectful and trashy. For a church wedding, that's an even bigger "hell no"

I can't imagine a spouse wanting his/her wife in a sheer bodice. It's one thing to show curves; it's another to wear something see through

Personally I would be very uncomfortable walking down the aisle in that dress, and I'm certain my guests would be too.

There's a time and a place for sexy, but your wedding day should be more about elegance and class imo.
