Thinking of skipping bridesmaid bouquets?

So im getting quotes from florists and I'm realizing that its going to be 450-500 for flowers for 5 girls. That to me is alot of money for such a small in my opinion somewhat unnecessary detail. My floral budget is limited as we are spending more feeding and liquoring up our guests and id rather spend it decorating the venue than on bouquets they will hold for a few minutes.

You guys know manners so my question is : Is this rude/cheap/tacky? I plan on giving each of them gifts as well as paying for their lodging so i'm not skimping on them overall.

I like the bouquet party idea

    ETA: Tacos, tacos, tacos!

Real talk -> talk to your florist (ask what they can do with your budget) or perhaps order them from Costco? Other brides have and given it rave reviews. You do have to find somewhere to store them though.

They need to hold something. it can be long stalk flowers like calla lilies or hydrangeas with greenery around it. ive seen people holding lanterns also paper flowers. Ive also seen outside wedding bridesmaid holding fans or clutches. try to look on pinterest I'm sure it will be alot to choose from

I looked into flowers and was quoted $700! I made all our own bouquets for about $30. If they are being escorted down the isle i don't think it would be that weird. I have also seen people use just 1 single flower to hold. Really it all depends how you want it all to look

I only have a MOH... But she's TOTALLY carrying a taco.

She's Mexican. Maybe I should rethink that...

Still no one who is all "what will they do with their hands!!" Is answering my question about how men can somehow manage to stand for a while without something to do with their hands, but women cannot.

I get the aesthetic argument for bouquets. I'm having this very fight with FW right now. But I really don't understand the angle that only ladies need something to do with their simple little lady hands

Why not have them carry one flower? Like a mum or a sunflower ?

I totally agree with you on the flowers and how expensive they are. We opted out as well. idk if you're into DIY but there are plenty of other affordable options. My ladies are going to carry a pomander ball with brooches on them. The pomanders came from shindigz.com (but I have seen smaller versions in marshalls or tj maxx for around $7!) Pinterest has a lot of cool alternative ideas, I'd check them out!

I'd go to whatever local grocery chain is in your area or if you have a wholesale flower market in your city and buy some flowers and put together 5 small bouqs yourself. Not sure where you live but I'd imagine you could get a dozen roses for around 12 dollars. Alstroemerias are very cheap flowers and I think they are beautiful as are mini carnations. That and some wire ribbon and you're set. I would not recommend doing your own bouq but if it's just small ones for BMs, I'm confident most people can put together a few flowers after watching a YouTube video or two.

Groomsmen manage to stand up without something in their hands. I'm sure the bridesmaids can do the same.

@PW&G seriously wtf! This is so ridiculous that I'm getting ready to not have bridesmaids bouquets as an act of defiance.

OH NO WHAT WILL I DO WITH MY SMALL PRECIOUS LADY HANDS IF THERE ARE NO FLOWERS TO HOLD!? I don't know bout y'all but I do pretty well managing my hands sans flowers every day of my life without collapsing in hysterics about not knowing what to do with my hands

How about silk flowers? You can purchase inexpensive ones online and the girls can keep them as decorations

Have you looked going fake flowers? You can get nice ones for discounted prices (sign up for the emails) at Joanns or Michael's craft stores. And they will still look fabulous!

I think PP who said that it was more about the fact that people are expecting them to be holding something, (so when they are not, it looks strange) is right. But i think you should do whatever you want and feel is comfortable and affordable for you.
