Thinking of skipping bridesmaid bouquets?

So im getting quotes from florists and I'm realizing that its going to be 450-500 for flowers for 5 girls. That to me is alot of money for such a small in my opinion somewhat unnecessary detail. My floral budget is limited as we are spending more feeding and liquoring up our guests and id rather spend it decorating the venue than on bouquets they will hold for a few minutes.

You guys know manners so my question is : Is this rude/cheap/tacky? I plan on giving each of them gifts as well as paying for their lodging so i'm not skimping on them overall.

I think single flowers or really small bouquets are fine. I don't see them as a gift, I think they're a photo prop.

Also, why do BM's need something to hold but GM's don't? Is that why men get pockets? I hate that women's clothing never have pockets...

Get them fake flower bouquets! I know everyone on WW seem to hate silk flowers but they're a good alternative. So many websites sell them or you can also DIY it if you want something in particular.

I honestly think it would be ok. My friend's florist wasn't at her shop when she said she would be for bouquet pickup the morning of her wedding, so none of us had bouquets. One of her BMs made the bride a bouquet with a hair elastic and a pot of chrysanthemums that her BIL picked up from the front of the florist shop when he went to get the flowers and the florist no-showed, but other than that, no flowers. I just looked at the pictures and we're all clasping our hands.

Came here to say exactly what Rachel T. said...

Why is it weird for women to not hold anything, but not men? Groomsmen find something to do with their hands just fine.

Here is another example. You may want to get other quotes and let the florist know what your budget per bouquet is.

Why is it that men don't need "something to do with their hands" when they're in a bridal party, but women do?

Not to get off track, but @kahl, what in the freaking sam hill is that officiant wearing? The lack of bouquets pales in comparison to that nightmare.

Groomsmen usually just fold their hands.

I would recommend even going to Michaels crafts or looking on Etsy. I loved my bouquets (see below). It was about $150 for mine plus 6 bridesmaids.

@Celia, I think she was wearing a raincoat. And possibly jeans? This wedding was early in the morning in northern Maine, in October. Despite the fact that we're all in sleeveless dresses, we were freezing.

Do single flowers or paper/silk flowers! Much cheaper and it won't look awkward. You could also do lanterns or other alternative bouquets

DIY with grocery store flowers! I did all of mine for $210. I had a big bouquet for me, smaller for my bridesmaids, but still a decent bouqet, arrangements to decorate the arch, and plenty for the aisles and centerpieces. Set a couple hours aside the day before with a couple family members or bridesmaids who would like to help and make up all your bouquets and arrangements. It was my favorite part of my wedding!

Woah now Celia, let's back up, are you sure tacos aren't an option?

Also, it's not that it will look awkward to have your hands clasped, it's that in just about everyone's mind they should be holding something so it feels awkward not to do so, which will lead to fidgety behavior which will not look composed.

You need something for them to hold. What about fake flowers?

For my sisters wedding she went to walmart and just bought a bunch of ivory, white, and light pink flowers. We trimmed them and made cute bows. I loved them. Didn't look cheap or tacky. It was fun making then the night before.

I am right there with you because when I saw the cost of the bridesmaid flowers the running joke was that I was sending the guys out to pick some palm leaves off the trees for the girls to hold the day of the wedding!

All joking aside, I talked to my florist and they are going to put together a small bouquet of roses and greenery for 35 bucks each. We did decide to cut out the florist for centerpieces though and my future MIL is making them with Sams Club flowers. Lots more roses and something simple for less money. Shop around and you may find ways to work out this out that won't break the bank!

I am a firm believer that yes sometimes if you can't afford it you need to scale back, but it also doesn't mean you don't deserve the beautiful wedding you imagine Smiley smile

I went to a wedding where the ladies wore a wrist corsage. It was very nice looking.
