Thinking of skipping bridesmaid bouquets?

So im getting quotes from florists and I'm realizing that its going to be 450-500 for flowers for 5 girls. That to me is alot of money for such a small in my opinion somewhat unnecessary detail. My floral budget is limited as we are spending more feeding and liquoring up our guests and id rather spend it decorating the venue than on bouquets they will hold for a few minutes.

You guys know manners so my question is : Is this rude/cheap/tacky? I plan on giving each of them gifts as well as paying for their lodging so i'm not skimping on them overall.

I feel like it would be awkward for the BMs to have nothing in their hands. Can you do simple single stems? Or lanterns? Something...

I got 1 long stem calla lilly wrapped in ribbon for my 6 girls. They were under $100.

Our bouquets will be placed in vases at the reception to add some decor so we're getting 2 uses out of them. Something to think about. I think it would be a little awkward to not have something to hold

One big flower was going for $15 at some florists I spoke with. This maybe an option for you.

Babies breath bouquets are also pretty inexpensive since they are a "filler" flower

We did something kind of similar to what SoonToBeMrsT posted. We had 2 burgundy dahlias (these blooms are large and take up lots of space) and a couple burgundy carnations (I think?) with a decent amount of eucalyptus. The bouquets looked full but simple and hardly cost anything.

I am not sure if you are very religious, but if so maybe they could hold a bible? Otherwise I like the one big flower above and the party idea as well!

What about grocery store bouquets? If they flowers are loose, wrap the stems with floral wire or tape & wrap the stems in ribbon. The flowers near me are about 12.99. Supplies won't cost much either. You could even do just 1 or 2 larger flowers, like sunlowers (if the match)

In a wedding I was in our bouquets were just babys breath. Super cheap. We made the bouquets ourselves and wrapped ribbon around the stems. You could also check out fake flowers, my friend used Amazon and it was very inexpensive and they looked great.

ETA: I hated the fact that the bride made us make our own bouquets. Even though it was just babys breath and ribbon. One reason why is it wasn't clearly communicated that we were making our own bouquets; after the rehearsal dinner we were about to go home and that's when it was sprung on us that no, you can't go home yet, you have to make your bouquet at 10pm.

If your wedding has any sort of woods aesthetics, you can always make these pinecone bouquets that I made for my girls. This cost me like $7 in materials to make and the pinecones and spruce were free (collected them myself).

As a classical vocalist, I've spent many a day standing awkwardly in front of a crowd with nothing to occupy my hands. And I had to actually sing well and look like I have emotions. Bridesmaids just stand there, I think they'll survive without. Clasp hands in front or behind, easy peasy. If you're worried it will look weird, maybe pick up flowers from a grocery store and DIY very simple nosegays.

I made my own, ordered some foam flowers on Amazon for $40 I think. I think they turned out great and saved me a ton of money!

@ Beachy (sorry OP I have no advice but I had to say this) I'm in LOVE with your bouquet!!! Those colors are glorious! And make me wish a little bit that I had chosen mine differently.

Something to think about when you pick a giant bridal party...they will need flowers.

they get a bouquet. It's a gift and a prop. And it's on you.

Don't be giving them parasols, foam flowers, puppies, hamsters, clutches, giant smelly wads of baby's breath or, kill me now, Bibles. The grocery store bouquets will last for about an hour

small, pretty and real? Great! Love the pinecones BTW.

Maybe they can just carry a Cosmo up the aisle. Problem solved.

Hello! I hope I am not repeating what anyone said, but there are a lot of different alternatives to what they can carry. One of my friend's weddings she had the bridesmaid hold little lanterns (which was very beautiful). I have also seen people carry down feathers, which was unique but it fit the wedding. If you do not like those options you can go with a lot of greenery to bring down the cost but still have a few flowers mixed in. Or just have them carry a single rose, which can be very beautiful. Best of luck!

No lanterns. No single flowers. No tacos, no candles, feathers or pastrami sandwiches.

You invited five people to stand with you. You need five bouquets.
