Thinking about highlighting my hair for the first time before the wedding. Yay? Nay?

I'm naturally blonde but the last few months my hair is going darker. I think it's just inevitable aging, which is kind of depressing. Also -we moved away from CO where I spent tons of time a mile closer to the sun than I do now at sea level. I got a groupon for a cut/partial highlight and...

I'm naturally blonde but the last few months my hair is going darker. I think it's just inevitable aging, which is kind of depressing. Smiley smile Also -we moved away from CO where I spent tons of time a mile closer to the sun than I do now at sea level.

I got a groupon for a cut/partial highlight and thought I might try it, but would it be weird to dye my hair the first time just before the wedding? I've never had highlights before, so I'm kind of nervous about it. I do want to lighten up b/c I feel like it's looking "mouse-y" but my hair also grows like a weed, and I'm worried I'll have weird roots or something.

Advice? Yay? Nay? Please and thank you in advance! Smiley smile

I may be nuts but I love the growing out look of highlights. I only redo my highlights about once a year. (when i have extra money that is not used for food.)

I had high lights in high school and I didn’t like the way they looked with my up do i did with grad so i knew I didn’t want them for my wedding hair! I like high lights for every day hair but i grow mine out for my wedding

If you are going to have an up do really think about how the high lights will look with the style you picked

I vote wait tell after the wedding

Mary Kay.com has a virtual makeover with hair color, highlights and lowlights and you can change things around on the sight. All you have to do is upload a photo of yourself and then start changing your hair color, hair style, and everything else inbetween - even the make up. At least this way you can see what it MIGHT look like before you do it.

I am a hairstylist and i saw your picture. You have a great hair color to have a foil done. Don't use the coupon, they probably need business or have a new person that needs customers! Go to a salon that charges a medium price for foils. Have the stylist use two colors and tell her/him that you want your hair to look natural. Foiled hair looks great in pictures, it brings out the natural movement of your hair. If you do it send me a picture! i think you will love it!

I LOVED getting highlights! But, they def are a pain in the bottom to keep up.. Your hair looks great! I wouldn't touch it, honestly. A great cut and a little stylin is all you need for the big day! You can maybe treat yourself to a highlight session after the wedding so you can look hot for the honeymoon? but honestly, I'd stay away from it.. I'm still growing mine out and it has been over a year ;P (almost there though!) Like I said, I loved them, but I couldn't keep it up if not just because it's pricey..

I say go for it. When I was younger my hair started darkening. I hated it. I was about 19 when it started gettting dark. I went and had highlights put in and LOVED IT. I so felt more like myself then the natural color coming it. IT just didn't "fit" me. I have highlighted my hair every since. I say if you don't feel comfortable looking in the mirror and not like yourself then do something to make you feel like a queen. Yes there is a chance that you may not like it. but like everyone else said you have time to change it back. GO NOW!! Don't wait around.

I think if you're going to try it, do it now. That way, if you don't like it, you can dye your hair back before the wedding and not worry a bit about it. But if you wait much longer, you don't have much wiggle room.

And def go with the soft, subtle lights, nothing stark or drastic. Also, Sandra gives some good advice about the groupon. Go to someone you trust.

Try them, highlights don't have to be drastic. You can have just a few to give some shine and depth to your current color. My sister has ash blond hair, and highlights really make her look like a million $.

As far as looking as close to natural on your wedding day goes? THANK GOD all the people that I paid a ton of money made sure that doesn't happen.
