Theme wedding

Sarah, on September 28, 2020 at 9:27 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 51

So we just got engaged and we are slowly starting our planning. We actually decided we want to have fun with the wedding and have a Theme wedding because we are both total nerds. We decided to do an Alice in Wonderland them. Has anyone else done a theme wedding?

My fiance and I don't have an official theme, though a lot of our decorations follow a forest theme. I love the Alice In Wonderland theme!! That's so fun!

My brother's wedding was Beauty and the Beast theme. My suggestion with a theme is to include small details without going overboard otherwise it could end up looking childish.

Thanks. We don't want it to look childish at all. We are cosplayers, that is why we are wanting to do a theme. I have been looking up ideas but I know I want it to look grown up for sure.

While I totally respect that is something you are into, I think it could very easily come off as looking like a child's birthday party rather than a wedding.

Our wedding is next month and it’s not so much themed as much as I’m going for a vibe/essence. Enchanted Forest is my goal. I designed our invitations which had this gorgeous forest background which definitely looked enchanted like the kind where pixies and elves live. Centerpieces will be wildflowers in mason jars with fairy lights set on wood slices with mushrooms, gnomes, moss, and/or candles. Our dresses are very lacy and we’re getting married at an outdoor amphitheater which is just gorgeous with trees and the lake behind us.

So cool! Alice in wonderland can be interpreted so many ways! Are you going for the classic Lewis Carroll AIW? Or are you going darker, like a MacFarlane-esque AIW? Or are you going to do an elegant twist on it?
There is actually another bride on here that did an Alice in Wonderland theme, and it turned out amazing!

    Chrysta,

I am so going to have to find that other brides pics to get more inspiration. We are leaning towards more towards the classic Lewis Carroll with an elegant twist.

My friend did a cosplay wedding. I'm from Atlanta, where DragonCon happens (similar to ComicCon). They had everyone dress up in their favorite cosplay outfits. It was amazing, super fun. Your wedding is about you and what y'all like. Sure, some people won't want to dress up, and that's fine. Some people didn't dress up at my friend's wedding and we all respected their choice. Yes, some people may suggest it's borderline "childish" to have a theme wedding. That said, I think all adults are interested in at least one childish thing. If they aren't, I often wonder if there's something that's being suppressed for fear of how things appear to others. Life isn't about doing what other people think you should do, or following the norms other people have decided to follow. The way weddings are today is actually quite new. For instance, Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt got married in 1905, in the home of Eleanor's grandmother with only a few close family members around. They were both from well-to-do family's. Do what makes YOU happy, what is true to yourself. When you look back on it, you will be glad you did.

In 2018 there was a WW bride who had an over-the-top Alice in Wonderland themed wedding...like, Disneyland would have been jealous. I just searched, the bride's user name was "Red Queen" and her little symbol was a cartoon illustration of the White Rabbit, the wedding was in May, 2018. If you search old forums you should be able to find her BAM (Back & Married post) with lots of photos. If you ever wanted to see someone commit to a theme, it was that bride and her husband! Good luck!

Alice in Wonderland will be an amazing theme! We are getting married on Halloween...which I guess could be it’s own theme, but we are also leaning into The Nightmare Before Christmas theme. Some of our decor is just spooky with a bit of a Victorian theme, but other things are specifically NBC. My bridesmaids and FMIL were able to incorporate the NBC theme into my bridal shower. It’s been fun to find and create decor that goes with the theme. Theme wedding 1
