The things that went wrong at our wedding

With so much going on, things are bound to go wrong! Nothing came anywhere close to ruining the day, but here is what went wrong at our wedding, followed by how we dealt with it.

1) People started eating cake early- I know our cupcakes were f*cking delicious, and the convenient single servings are very welcoming, but what adult doesn't know that you are supposed to wait for the bride and groom to do their cake exchange before you dive in?

We just shrugged it off and finished our meal. We did the traditional "feed each other cake" bit when we were good and ready.

2) Guests showed up that RSVPed "No"- We didn't know they were coming until we saw them as we were literally walking down the aisle!

Although an inconvenience, we were happy they were able to make it. At dinner they found chairs and squeezed in at a table with people they knew.

Damn girl, that sucks. But I am glad you provided her your feedback. That was very unprofessional of her!

I would've bitched so much to the hairdresser! WTF!! I'm so mad for you right now. One of my wedding nightmares is late vendors.

I'm glad you didn't let that bother you. Rub off some of that positive attitude on me!

Oh man I really want peanut butter pretzels now. . . mmmmm. . . .

We all hope that everything will go as its supposed to, but it never does! I'm glad the worst of yours was manageable, and looking at your pictures, I never would have known your hair was rushed or you were supposed to have jewelry-- you looked beautiful and I agree the bare neck went perfectly with the neckline of your dress!

Thanks everyone! Adding pics of our too tempting cupcakes and the most detailed shot of my 20 minute hairdo (the trial took 40 minutes and she said she'd spend at least twice that time for the day-of hair)

You're making me nervous about my hair and make up person now. I found out during my trial that she is doing another wedding the same day as mine. She's waking up at 3am to do their stuff, and then at 7:30 is coming to my hotel to do ours. Luckily we planned in a little wiggle room since we are hoping to take pictures before the ceremony but we can do it after if we have to.

It's funny you say that about the cupcakes because as I was making the sign today of the flavors, I was wondering if I should spell it out to wait until we cut the little cake we're getting just for us. Then I thought it'd be insulting, but yeah....I tend to give people too much credit. Maybe I'll edit that sign...

Glad you still were able to shrug off these things and enjoy your wedding. Your hair looked fine. And again... those cupcakes look so good! No wonder some people couldn't wait to eat them. Smiley smile

I was at a wedding a few weeks ago with a dessert bar, and yes, it was half gone by the time the wedding party arrived. FH and I didn't take part because it didn't seem right, but there were tons of guests filling up on sweets. The girl who made them all was a bit upset that the bride never got to see the display she made.

I wouldn't assume too much on people's good manners...at least have the caterer or someone there to swat hands. Smiley smile

OMG, your cupcake dilemma really just hit me in a weird place.

I went to a wedding last month where they had a dessert table. Dinner was over, and it was kind of light. My DH and I were wondering about the dessert table, and when it was "allowed" to be disturbed... LOL.

We asked one of the staff, and they said to go ahead, so we did. The B&G hadn't cut their cake yet though.

So, I kid you not, haha, we got a sampling of the desserts from the table, and as soon as we were walking away, we saw a HUGE LINE form at the dessert table.

At that point we were like, "Oh. s***. Look what we did! I really hope this actually is okay."

They cut their cake about 25 minutes later.

I still don't know if what that staff member told us was right, and I feel like I should have MAYBE known better! HAHAHA.

Reminds me of the ONE person who came up to our sweetheart table to say congrats and snap a pic. 5 seconds later there was another person, and before you know it we had a line. :/ We made the best of it and smiled, took all the pics with everyone, but man...that made us late to eat, and we didn't get to taking pictures at every table until wayyy later, when people were already up and about. Lol! It's like monkey-see monkey-do at weddings!

@V, that was the general chain reaction.. LOL. There was not a piece left on that dessert table either. It was scarfed down.

Great advice! That sucks about your hair dresser. I'd be pissed, too. And it's hard your mom not being there, but I'm sure it was for the best.

I will flip a table if people RSVP no and still show up!!!

Congrats! Sounds like you handled everything well. Can't believe your hair dresser was so late. Did she at least lower the price? She def should of budget her time better and since it was her fault she def should of tried to find a way to kindof lessen the blow.

    Congratulations!

I could see the hairdresser running a LITTLE late....but an hour late is totally unacceptable!

I'd be pretty pissed off about guests showing up who said they weren't going.

    PS: The cupcakes look yummy!

I would have gone bridezilla on the hair dresser and then demanded a refund or discount. Haha

@Rustic- I could see the dessert table calling for different rules if it's not the "official cake." Either way, you asked if it was ok first and got permission!

@V- You are so right about monkey see monkey do. People turn into sheep at weddings because there is so much uncertainty.

@Kristen- Luckily, it was only 2 people. We had plenty of food, so that wasn't a problem. My main concern is that they made other people uncomfortable by squeezing 7 people at a 6 person max table. But overall, we were happy they were there.

@Shamika- Looking back on it, I think I could have asked for a discounted price. Based on the lack of time and care she spent doing my hair, and the stress she caused on my wedding day, I deserved a huge price break. But with everything that was going on, it didn't even occur to me. I wish it did; I struggled to justify paying a total of $220 on hair/hair trail.
