The Rose Ceremony

Partly Cloudy, on July 18, 2012 at 6:56 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

Did anybody do a Rose Ceremony instead of Unity Candle or Sand Ceremony? If so, can you please describe it to me. I am getting married at Hudson Gardens in Littleton, CO. The ceremony location is called the Rose Garden. It is beautiful! So I thought it would be fitting to do the Rose Ceremony.

I only know the one done during a Catholic Nuptial Mass. It is done during/right after the Sign of Peace. The groom gives a rose to the MOB and the bride gives a rose to the MOG. There is usually nice music playing in the background.

I usually perform a rose ceremony by the bride and groom each giving a rose to their mothers (and sometimes grandmothers) as a gesture of their love and appreciation for raising them. A rose ceremony would be wonderful to do in a rose garden!

The unity candle and sand ceremony, on the other hand, are about joining your two lives as one. So, I think you could do the rose ceremony and either the unity candle or sand ceremony. (If the venue is windy then I would suggest the sand ceremony because it's hard to keep candles burning.)

I've seen it done where once the bride walks up to the alter she takes a rose from her bouquet and gives it to her mom. Then on the way out, the couple turns to face the crowd, the bride takes a rose from her bouquet and gives it to her MIL.

You can have 2 roses different color from your bouquet so you know which to pull out. You can have the florist put them in there differently so they are easy to pull out.

Now like Rev. Bob said the rose ceremony is different from the unity candle/sand ceremony. If you want something to replace that maybe you could do a unity cross. It represents the man and woman coming together to become one under the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

I appreciate the input! I had no idea there were so many different options for the rose ceremony. The one I had heard about is the one Toni pointed out. The other ones sound really sweet and meaningful for the mothers.

@Ester - I had not seen the unity cross before. I love it! It is so beautiful! I found an excellent description of it online.

Now I am stuck. Do I go with the rose ceremony, or do the unity cross. FH says it's too much to do both.

What a cool idea! Thanks for sharing! I love the idea of doing something symbolic, but not the traditional unity candle or unity sand!
