The never ending saga of (too many) wedding dresses

Mrs.a, on August 20, 2020 at 2:21 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14
I ordered two dresses for our commitment ceremony as I was concerned one wouldn’t arrive on time. Sure enough it did (just 2 days early and in the nick of time to be altered). The other arrived the day of the commitment ceremony, which obviously didn’t work out so...
The dress I wore is very glittery & sparkly (lots of glitter & sequins), although it’s hard to tell from the photos. It photographed better than I expected! But Husband is not a fan of the shimmer and MIL stated several times I look like a fairy princess, which is fine for those who want a fairy princess vibe....but I couldn’t help but feel like a giant disco ball lol
I tried on the second dress and Husband loves it...I love it too! It’s more flattering on me in terms of the fit. The fabric feels really nice & soft too & much lighter to move around in. Also, I feel like the first dress makes me look more bloated. It’s also more subtle in terms of sparkle, just a few sequins spaced apart. Now we’re having our minimony and I’m torn whether to wear the disco ball fairy princess dress again or wear the second (new) dress.
WWYD?

I think both dresses look lovely on you, although the second one does fit better. It sounds to me like you all like the second dress more so I would go with that one.

I love the first dress in the "outside" - not so much a fan of it inside. But it does look gorgeous on you. The second dress gives me a "boho" vibe. But it too is gorgeous in you. I think I'd go with the one you both agree on.

It’s interesting, husband said as we were outside that he liked it better in the outdoor/natural light. I have to agree. I’m wondering if I could take it to my seamstress to have the top altered to be more fitted. She had made the sleeves to go over my shoulders but when I put on the dress it caused the front to bunch up and look sloppy which is why I opted to wear it off-the-shoulder instead.

This is no fault on her as I had to put in an SOS and have this dress altered within 24 hours, which she did and I think it turned out well. There are some things I would like to tweak and change if I do wear it again. The only set back is the glitter but again, since we’re doing things outside in October, I don’t think that will be as much of a concern.

The second dress I love the fit, but I’m not in love with the color or the neckline. However I do love the feel of it and the skirt & sleeves. I think it’s very pretty.

There are things I love and don’t love about both dresses. IDK I’m so torn.

Thanks! I’m so torn lol. I love the design and the color of the first dress, don’t get me wrong Smiley smile

I wonder if I could have the first dress altered to have the top fit better.

Both are so pretty! If I had to pick one, I'd probably choose the second one, but I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

Thanks! Would it make a difference if I could alter the first one? My seamstress designed loops so the sleeves would attach to the straps of the slip to go over the shoulder but when I did that it caused the front to bunch up so it would have had sleeves like the second dress. I’m also curious if the top can be altered to be more fitted. IDK. I really like both.

I'd suggest (looking at the two dresses)... if your seamstress can... drop the waist line on the "princess" dress and make it more fitted in the waist (give you hour glass shape) it would probably be exactly as you want / envision it.

The second dress, I see what you say about the neckline. Not sure how you could fix that, I was trying to envision a scoop neck, but that didn't look good (in my mind's rendition)... what about changing it to a spaghetti strap and bringing the chesty lace to line up with the inside layer? (or is that too risque for you)?

I love both dresses on you! Personally I think I prefer the second one, I tend to choose dresses that are not so big. But as you said in previous post, I think if you could alter the first one so it's a little more fitted in the top area, then it would be great!

Altering the first one is a good idea! Maybe if you altered just the things you don't love about the first dress, and keep everything else the same? That way, it's still the same dress, but also slightly different.

Thank you! I think I'll wear the second dress for October for FH. He's going through so much so I really want it to be special for him. Also my dress for May will be a surprise so at least I can wear this one which he really likes!

Personally I love the first dress and I think it looks great in the photos! But, if you feel better in the second dress, and your husband loves it, wear that one!!! I think it's always fun to get a new dress so why not wear the new one?!
