The more i plan... the more i want to elope.

Halie, on August 17, 2020 at 10:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 15
Have any other brides felt this way? The way we want things, is expensive. The more I plan, the less it becomes about us and more about our guests. My mom says it is unfair for my family to not be at our day, but dang. It’s expensive to host 40 guests properly. We could technically cut the guest list to just parents, but that seems unfair. We both have a lot of siblings. I can’t imagine what you all feel who host 100 or 200.

Is there any in between? At this point, I’m looking at private room restaurants. I’ve looked at two so far. There are no room rental fees, but food/drink minimum apply.

Covid changed a lot of our plans. We are doing a minimony/mircowedding then an elopement that neither of our parents know about and in 2022 a large wedding. We did the legal paperwork already so our plans have been fluid. We have always wanted to elope but we are compromising with additional events. I think maybe a micro wedding might be a good option for you! Best of luck!

What is included in your microwedding? What all is involved in your elopement?

My photographer is willing to shoot both which is amazing.

The minimony will be with our closet friends and family, originally thought it would be just our parents but FH was planning to surprise me as a wedding shower. My father spoiled it by tellin me all these ppl were coming!! I had never planned for one so I was contemplating it but then reverted back to the minimony. I will walk myself down the aisle. Exchange some mini vows, a community vow and then have a late lunch and chill.
For the elopement, We booked an airbnb and plan on hiking to a top of a mountain. It will just be us and the photographer. We plan on exchanging our full vows then.

This is very similar to what we are thinking. We are opting for courthouse and lunch/dinner for our guests. Most likely it will be just our parents. If we can find a cheap enough restaurant, we will invite siblings.

Then we want to elope over the following weekend to a national park with us and our photographer. Make a whole day of wearing our wedding attire, makeup, exploring, and written vows. I have to see if our photographer would be willing to shoot both.

Yes, ma'am. Feel the same way as you. I'm leanimg more towards an elopement or having parents only as guests. It's just too expensive trying to host a 50+ guest list. I'm a really private person anyway so eloping sounds more appealing.

We are currently planning for a small wedding next year for 40 guests... with COVID and life in general, I’ve felt that the wedding guest list has started growing... everything is expensive... and that I rather spend my money elsewhere.
The fiancé has mentioned a courthouse wedding and a reception/party next year. I am completely okay with it but worried about how our guests/family/friends would feel about an elopement.

I had a mini wedding, it was a total of 9 including us. Just immediate family, and it was perfect. My mom kept pushing for us to invite my extended family, and I had to firmly put my foot down to say no.

My sister is getting married next month and she’s not inviting family at all. She decided she wants it to be just the two of them. But we will he meeting in October to celebrate with immediate family— can’t wait!

I eloped so 100% support doing your day your way. No family stress needed.

Before Covid, we were planning to have a bigger celebration with family and friends about 3 weeks later. Rented out the patio of a Mexican restaurant on the water (now cancelled), would have provided a limited taco and drink menu, and some music for those that felt like dancing. Decor was just the location and view on the water, maybe we would have printed one of our elopement photos as the welcome sign.
People could still make toasts if they wanted. Dress up if they want. We just wouldn’t be doing the ceremony part. The “perfect day” would be done with already so far less stress. Parents would get their party like they wanted.
Funny thing is, the party would be this coming weekend and being married is already old news. People know and aren’t fawning over it anymore. I think everyone ended up fine without the party.

Yeah, that’s why we were thinking courthouse and lunch or dinner. That way everyone can see us legally married, but still get the ceremony, handwritten vows, adventure of our day with an elopement.

We originally had a 92 ppl wedding planned. Covid came n we reduced it to 7 people. Got married in an outdoor garden and got catering from a soul food restaurant. Reception at our apartment. Way less stressful and saved us money

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with eloping. I originally wanted to elope but the more I thought about it I didn’t want to possibly regret not having a bigger wedding so we start planning. Then Covid hit. So we are now planning a minimony of about 30 guests for October and our big wedding of about 100 guest is still on for March

    100% i felt that !

i ended up still having a big wedding but i definitely felt stressed during where i just wanted to quit.

remember to take breaks for yourself so it won't get as overwhelming

So I have felt this way for a while now. I get it the more I plan the more expensive it is getting and I have anxiety over it! I have so many people on my side that I feel obligated and want to invite. Then poor FH has like 15 max. I know with COVID its been so hard. I have had to take breaks because I will get so overwhelmed with everything. So I simply workout and take care of myself by doing my hobbies and to relax as much as possible.

I think that choosing the ones you absolutely cannot see getting married without would be the ones you should have there. I think taking breaks too should help. I know it can be a lot all at once but taking little steps at a time and thinking about the end game is good to do. I think you should do whatever you feel comfortable with and what you both are okay with doing.

I feel this so much. We wanted a very small wedding and my mom threw such a fit that we had to shell out more money to accommodate more and even then it wasn't enough so we are having a second reception just for all her friends. I really wish we had been able to just elope but honestly I was tired of the drama. I'm a people pleaser and an introvert so we shall see how those mix...ugh

We are trying to be considerate of our friends and family as well. We flat out said we want to be married this year so we are doing courthouse and a private dinner. We are debating between a 10-30 guest list for the occasion. We may not do a literal courthouse. Maybe a garden and then restaurant? It just depends on how quickly everything opens. Since there are so many travel restrictions right now, we have having an adventure vow renewal later on. That way we get a honeymoon and the super awesome pictures like we originally intended.
