The Journey Begins: Making My Dress!

Tonight I begin a long Journey, the ultimate DYI: My dress! I’m excited and a little anxious (as I often am before a big sewing project) but I’ve procrastinated enough! Well, here goes!

I’ve been working on the bustle and train tonight. The major sewing is done but the gathering is just pinned in place. I’m going to have to play around a bit to get waterfall effect I want. So far I’m pretty satisfied and I’ve hit the turning point where the dress is starting to really resemble my vision.

    Following to watch your progress!

My mom made her wedding dress. She had to do some of it by hand because a hurricane knocked out their power a few weeks before the wedding! Luckily she was able to get it done in time though.

This is amazing. it's also cool because you'll get to have a dress with all the details you'd want. it's hard to find a single dream dress that already has all those details you'd imagine. and now you can actually make it into fruition. best of luck.

Another round of fittings and hem markings. Now I’m just waiting for my lace to arrive so I can finish up the skirts.

I'm considering making my own too! It's daunting but I think it's the only way I can get what I want within budget. Wishing you the best of luck. Looking forward to hopefully seeing the finished product! Congrats!

It’s been a minute but the skirt is finally finishing up! I don’t like how it lays on the dress form but it looks good on me! Hopefully I can have a friend snap a pic of it on me next week. Now it’s on to the bodice!

Your progress looks so good so far! I couldn't even begin to imagine making my own dress, I'd end up wearing a sack xD

Just finished my first draft on the bodice. I’m pretty pleased. It looks a little droopy on the dress form because not all components are in places
