The Great Debate- Indoor or Outdoor Ceremony?

We're still having this discussion- we haven't decided if we want to do an indoor or outdoor ceremony.

Outdoor:

1) Natural decor. Don't have to do much!

2) Worry about traffic, or extreme heat (guests would gather indoors until ceremony time, so they wouldn't sit in the heat.

3) Our venue has a great big beautiful lawn on a hill. And a very pretty back patio. But do I want to risk having chairs set up in the background for our pictures?

4) Photographer can move around much more freely.

5) Last minute change in case of inclement weather...

Indoor:

1) Air conditioning.

2) Smaller room, with backdrop of large mirror that might glare for pictures.

3) Harder for my photog to meander around the guests.

4) Would require more decorating work.

5) Weather isn't a worry.

Opinions? I'm half tempted to flip a coin...

Here are some pics. The two outside- we coudl use the patio, or the lawn area.

The one picture is of the mirror I was talking about. Not a great pic to show the room, but would give you an idea.

What a beautiful place!! The mirror isn't what I thought of at all. I was picturing a huge wall mirror. You could easily put something up there to take away from the mirror. If you get married on the lawn area where would you come from? The top of the stairs? I see some doors on the left. You could easily do a screen or two and have your WOW moment at the top of the stairs.

I think outdoor would be great, if the weather permits it. We are having a short outdoor ceremony, so I am not too worried about the guests. They all know its an outdoor ceremony, and that its at the end of the summer/beginning of fall, so they will dress appropriately. Maybe tell the guests that it will an outdoor ceremony, and tell them to dress accordingly?

I think the outdoor area is beautiful! And like Jaemi said.....if you do the ceremony on the lawn it looks like your entrance can be from a door up on the patio and down the stairs! I think that would be beautiful! Just my opinion, but your wording makes it seem like you want the outdoor........but indoor would be beautiful as well! I really think you can have your entrance though down those stairs!!!

Absolutely love the outside location. We are having an outdoor wedding in July in NC. It will be hot but the reception is in the same location and inside. Can't beat a garden wedding.

Well I'm partial to nature, so I would go with outside, but it seems like from your comments that you are leaning toward an indoor wedding. Choose whatever you like.

I prefer the outdoor ambiance, however if I had to choose I would probably go with the "play it safe" indoor option. That is a toughie.

Meghan- what time is your ceremony being held?

I like the outdoor (the first pic on your outdoor pic) That way when the photographer takes pictures..he will have the view of the building and you guys (breathtaking)

From my perspective, I would go with the indoor event.

My daughter and SIL, (actually HE wanted this more than she did) wanted an outdoor wedding, last July. July can be hot here (and it was on their wedding day...97 degrees).

I do not do well in the extreme heat and I am highly allergic to bees, so I told my daughter "If you want me to be there, and pay for the wedding, it cannot be an outdoor event." In the end, everyone was happy to be inside as it was HOT!

So, I think that you need to think of the guests invited. Are they used to the heat in your area? Will anyone have to avoid being there due to it being held outdoors?

I've been to several outdoor weddings where it has been very hot, and while it can be a bit uncomfortable, as long as you aren't having a long ceremony, and you have an AC room for people to be in before and after, I would do outdoors all the way. Just have plenty of water/cool drinks for people to sip on. That patio area is awesome! What beautiful ceremony photos you'll get there! You could rent/buy some paper parasols for those people who need shade, and those look really cute in photos too. Can you hide in the trees on the lawn, and come from behind them to walk up the aisle?
