The dress your mom would have picked

Maren, on September 19, 2018 at 2:05 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 58

As the saying goes, “mother always knows best”, but was that the truth for your wedding dress, too?

Do you have the same style, are your tastes total opposites, or do you fall somewhere in the middle when it comes to your bridal look?

Is the dress you chose to say “I do” in the style that your mom would have chosen? Smiley heart

My mom mainly wanted me in an A-line which is what I ended up with lol, but she loved all the dresses I tried on! She couldn't stop smiling the whole time!

My mom and I actually 100% agreed on my dress! She and my MOH went shopping with me, and we were all so overwhelmed with choices that we decided not to buy anything (I had narrowed it down to 4, and couldn't choose from there). A week later I went to my mom saying "I can't stop thinking about this one dress..." and she goes "the fourth one, right?! me either, let's go back and get it." She knew exactly what I was thinking, and apparently she had been thinking the same thing all week but didn't want to influence my decision hahaha

I told my mom what I wanted. I took her to the doctor one day and we rode passed a bridal shop that had a dress in the window. We both fell in love with it. With no intentions of dress shopping that day we went in so I could try it on. Needless to say we both cell in love with it. My mom paid for it right then and there she was a happy sobbing mess! I'm my mother's mini me. We have the same taste, love shopping with her.

My mother and I have completely different taste in fashion, so her input would mean very little to me. I dont know if she would like my dress or not. I dont think Ive even sent her pictures of it. I bought my dress alone (no one was with me) and I ADORE it. Anyone who doesnt like it....too bad for them!

I don't have a dress yet but my mom has complete opposite tastes. I'd be surprised if she would like anything I do style-wise lol

Yes! The first place we went the woman put me in all these trendy gowns and there was one I really liked but my mom wasn't sold. The second store we went to, I tried all these classic elegance gowns and it was such a difference - I end up with a grace-kelly inspired gown that i'm beyond in love with (and ins 10000% mom approved)

My mom didn’t have a specific style she absolutely wanted me to get. I tried on everything! She loves my dress so much, as do I. She cried at my appointment and also when I first tried it on after the one I ordered came in. That’s good enough approval for me!

My mom picked my dress. I was hell-bent on a mermaid with lace and straps. Mom pulled a blush ballgown with a sheer bodice, strapless. I actually laughed when she showed it to me, but she begged me to put it on. Guess which dress I'm getting married in 2 weeks from Friday!!! Mom really does know best!

My mom picked me dress. At the first boutique I wasn’t really wowed by the choices the stylist pulled for me. At my second appointment they had me pick a couple people (from my HUGE group) help me select a few dresses to try. My mom was the one that pulled the style I fell in love with.

My mom loved how I looked in more simple and understated gowns, which is my style too but we couldn't agree on a look. No lace, no beading, just plain and simple beauty...and ballgown or a-line!

I was originally getting married outside. I walked out of the dressing room in a huge ballgown with lace cap sleeves and my mom started to cry. I knew it was too heavy and not really the vibe I was going for. This was not going to be a country club golf course wedding and that's how the dress made me feel. I wanted something light and airy without a train.

The dress I picked my mom still thought was beautiful but it's definitely not what she loved the most.

After all of that, we unfortunately had to change venues for different reasons. I'm now getting married in a church and really see myself wearing a bigger gown because of the venue change. My dress was more simple, perfect for the outdoors, but not a large church wedding. I ordered a tulle overskirt to wear over my dress so its still the original dress but now with an a-line/ballgown skirt over top.

I guess mom and I both got what we were looking for in the long run, and I'm so excited that I can take the skirt off to dance more comfortably later in the evening.

Hi FutureMrsKC! That's so great you were able to add onto the skirt for a fuller look, fitting for a church ceremony. The best of both worlds, exactly, I love how you will have two looks on your wedding day! Smiley heart One to walk down the aisle and one to dance the night away. Smiley heart

When a different consultant brought out a dress for me to try on because she heard what I said about another dress I was in, my mom immediately said that was my dress while it was still on the hanger. My consultant didn't even want me to try on that dress because it was over my budget but my mom insisted that I had to. Then she cried. I ended up picking that dress!

My mom had chose a ball gown that had 7 layers to the skirt. It was beautiful but heavy. Needless to say my dress is a Chantilly lace sheath dress with a little bling and a sweetheart neckline.
