The Best Wedding Gift?

The Bride, on August 28, 2019 at 9:54 PM Posted in Community Conversations 3 32
I recently read a post where a newly married couple said their family members brought them a date night wallet with gift cards to local restaurants, bars, movies, etc.

What are your thoughts on this gift? If you received something similar would you like it? Why or why not? What date night ideas would you want the wallet to include?

That sounds awesome . I'd definitely want movies, bowling, various restaurants to be in there.

I love this idea. One of my bridesmaids actually threw me a “date night” shower, since our families are throwing us traditional showers. Everyone brought gifts for things we could use for/during date nights. We received things like gift cards to nice restaurants, scavenger hunts, board games (which we love), and of course the traditional wine & sexual items lol. They also filled out “date night ideas” on pieces of paper and put them in a jar for us. So once we are married, we can grab an idea from the jar. Somewhat similar to what you posted and I really liked the concept.

I saw this on Facebook and thought it was super creative. I think gift cards make a great gift. Of course local restaurants, maybe arcade places like Dave and Buster’s, a massage or spa night, pottery painting...we definitely value experiences over physical items.

I would hate that. If they insist on pretending cash or check isnt preferable, maybe a Visa giftcard....
I could see me and FH opening that up and saying okay great let's go use up this...applebees? Giftcard I guess :p ugh

I mean I’m personally not a fan. I want to try new stuff all the time. It would be nice to get an Uber gift card, Caviar, or DoorDash I guess but even then, just cash would be the same.

I guess it gets points for creativity but it seems like a whole lot of plastic waste that’ll get pitched in the garbage when you could have just given cash 🤷🏽‍♀️

LOVE IT!!! 💕 FH and I want exactly THIS.... “practical gifts of experiences” via gift cards to restaurants, movies, massages/spa, zoo, etc. So, I created a test registry on Amazon with gift cards (and I’m actually looking for other sites with gift card registries).

Some may think it’s weird. But 🤷🏽‍♀️.... in all honesty, FH and I need nothing. Either we already have it or can easily buy it. No gifts at all would be perfectly fine. But since guests will ask for a registry, we agreed that this was a nice and practical route. We really don’t need towels or toasters and hate junky clutter that sits unused in the cabinets. But maybe we’ll toss a few wine glasses and an Instapot on there (just because).

Not me! I’d take it and enjoy some basic Applebee’s food and drinks with FH right after using a movie gift card from our registry. Haaaaaa!!!!

We would have really loved this! Especially during our first year of marriage when we weren't able to do a lot of dates since I wasn't working as much due to my clinical internship. We tend to stick to the same places even though we always talk about trying new places, so getting us gift cards is a safe bet lol.

We would love this!! We have a registry on Zola, and they let you register for gift cards. We registered for several places: Delta, Airbnb, Stub Hub, Petco, Southwest, Fandango, and Hotels.com. FH & I travel and go to sporting events, movies, concerts, and out to eat a lot so we registered for things to help pay for those costs (plus a gift card for my dog)! FH's dad and brother are going to throw a gift card shower for him as well! One of his groomsmen did this, and he got a lot of gift cards!

I would've loved a gift like that. My husband and I hate to cook so we go out to eat a lot, so it would be perfect for us.
