I recently read a post where a newly married couple said their family members brought them a date night wallet with gift cards to local restaurants, bars, movies, etc. What are your thoughts on this gift? If you received something similar would you like it? Why or why not? What date night ideas...

I agree that cash is better but I like the idea of not having to think about places to go. I'd randomly pick a gift card every two weeks until they all ran out. I guess its the spontaneity of it all that I like. And it forces you to continue to date your partner after marriage.

I see your point. I guess the plastic waste is equivalent to the way I feel about the cards we received. They were all adorable and the messages were great but ultimately they will all be thrown out. Our guest could have left the messages on our wedding website.

My husband and I would have loved a date night wallet filled with random gift cards. We have a date night every two weeks so it would have been one less thing for us to think about.

My husband and I got between 3 and 5 gift cards. The only one we have left is Bath and Body Works because we haven't had time to get to a store. We also appreciated them Smiley smile

I guess I just dont find picking a gift card from a pile spontaneous. We go out to eat as a reward to ourselves a lot because we're both foodie types, and half the fun is trying out a new restaurant or a chef that we researched, so I just couldn't see being our thing (to each their own!) Also, spontaneous and forced in the same scenario....eh?

The next wedding I go to I plan to get together with a couple of guests to get the couple a wallet filled with gift cards.

You could request gift cards to specific restaurants. But as you mentioned, to each their own. If I were going to request a gift like this I would be sure to specify what type of gift cards I wanted, that way the locations wouldn't seem "forced".
