The bare minimum...

Ok, so I recall the conversation w/ our vendor about us having to pay for 100 people. That's the venue's minimum in terms of food and drink. Well bless my mom who doesn't pay attention, but now she's making a big stink about it. We may end up w/ 70 to 80ppl and she's complaining stating had she...

Well bless my mom who doesn't pay attention, but now she's making a big stink about it. We may end up w/ 70 to 80ppl and she's complaining stating had she known that she wouldn't pay. It is frustrating but honestly for the venue and price of menu I'm fine w/ the minimum. There were so many other venues in the area that were on the water that pretty much costed you both arms and legs. I feel the venue I have is a penny in the bucket in comparison of price. Did/Does your venue have a minimum ppl attendence and if so how did you cut cost?

Ours wasn't a stated minimum but they started there quote at 100 for us and whatever amount of guests we have over that, we just add to the cost later. If we were not contract for at least 100, my venue charged like an extra $5-9 depending on the package.

We had a $15K minimum no matter how many people. But we had about 115 so we went over that anyway. Where did I save? Hmm. Well we opted to get only the ceremony video'd which was $300, and my cousin photographed the wedding as a gift so we saved a lot there. Otherwise we didn't save, LOL.

We have a food/beverage minimum but not a per head minimum. Do you have any B list people you wanted to invite but couldn't?

@mariAnne, first off your venue is amazing! Our venue has a food/ beverage minimum. So, our plan is if the guest list is smaller than expected, we are going to add a couple appetizers or more premium alcohol!

We just had a minimum $ amount we had to spend. So we figured if we didn't hit that number based off our guests, we would just do some add ons.

I would suggest asking the venue if you're only having 80 people but have to pay the amount for 100 people, can you just do some upgrades (dessert tables, open bar, extra food item on the plate, etc.) to fill in the costs, so that you're not totally wasting money.

We had a discount coupon from a Bridal Show from our venue, so that shaved 10% right off the top! Other than that I just comparison shopped like nobodys business. I always looked to see where the best deal for the best quality was.

I have a minimum for my venue. The minimum is 80 people but we are going to be below that. Probably like 60-70 people.

At first my dad who was paying for it all was upset, but when I told him the reasons for people declining it was all understandable. After talking to him he accepted the fact that we would be paying more money than who was there. "It is what it is and we are still going to have a fun time." That's the mentality that we've embrased.

As for your question, I'm confused. How did I cut costs? I didn't. I thought I'd be over that minimum but since I'm not that didn't effect any of my other money decisions since I found out after I made pretty much all my payments that we wouldn't have enough people.

Yep, ours had 100 minimum, and like you, we just *didn't* have that many people we wanted to have at our wedding who also wanted to be there! I'm sorry your mom is giving you flack.
