That one thing you are excited about/one thing you are foregoing?

Breanne, on November 16, 2017 at 2:38 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

Hey WW community!! I’m getting married in June. I have a list of big projects that we will be starting soon, which we are hoping enhances the experience for all of our guests. With that – what is the one thing that you as a bride or guest was your favorite part of the wedding; and what are things you are foregoing (or as a guest didn’t really much care for)?

    Important:

    Food

    Good bartender!

GOOD MUSIC (I went to a wedding with the worst band I've ever heard, not a single person danced)

    Not important:

Favors (I lose every favor I get from weddings, tbh)

Lots of paper (programs, menus, etc)

ETA: As a bride I think I'm most excited for our ceremony music, so that's included in the good music section! As for favors in the not important section, I want to give a donation to the shelter we got my dog from...FH is saying people want physical favors but speaking from experience, I misplace them all

Most excited for: The food. We're serving plated filet mignon with bacon, garlic mashed potatoes and fresh veggies. We will also offer guests a second entree of chicken parmigiana served family style. (Special dietary requirements will be accommodated). We are also having fresh rolls, salad, pasta course, and oreo cheesecake for dessert. Still need to pick the hors d'ouvres, late night options and our signature cocktails. My mouth waters just thinking of it.

What are we foregoing: Quite a bit. Only having a MOH and BM no other bridal party. No DJ (we are opting for a dinner party atmosphere). No speeches/toasts. No real flowers (I'm doing Sola Wood bouquets). Possibly no wedding cake (I'm not a fan and would rather have a dessert buffet instead but, we are still deciding). No limo. No staged exit photo.

We're pretty untraditional and just want a really fun night with a few close friends. Good food, booze, and time to spend with everyone. We don't care about most of the "normal" wedding things.

    Most excited for:

Cocktail hour- We're having a bruschetta bar, so it's pretty untraditional but my caterer makes fabulous bruschetta

Centerpieces-lots of white pumpkins and lights

Dessert- I'm having a smores bar, so I'm pretty pumped for that.

We will also be having plenty of alcohol, so people will be happy about that.

    Foregoing: programs, parent/child dances

We're pretty excited about our food: it's a multi-cultural wedding so there's a Mexican offering and American offering. The Mexican is pork carnitas with all sorts of accompaniments: rice, refried beans, queso fresco, cilantro, diced tomato and onion. The American is a honey BBQ chicken breast, Vermont cheddar mac and cheese, Caesar salad and a roasted seasoned fingerling potato. Dessert is tres leches for the groom's cake and a two tiered wedding vanilla wedding cake with strawberry and vanilla buttercream.

What we are forgoing: we are doing a pretty laid back atmosphere. Neither FH and I are super into the high class, elegant affair sort of deal, so our reception is really a huge fiesta. We aren't doing any formal entrance or exit, no bouquet or garter toss, no programs and keeping the ceremony beautiful but simple, no welcome bags, etc..

We really wanted a dinner party vibe, so we had good music in the background, but no DJ.

    Important:

    Food

    Alcohol

    Cupcakes (tasted amazing!!!)

    Foregone:

    Favors (no one really cares)

    Programs

Welcome Bags even though I probably could have done them since we had less people than we thought we would.

I'm super excited for our food and DJ. Also just excited to be around all our wonderful people!!

    Not excited about:

    extra decor

    programs/signage

rehearsal dinner (because I swear it's either going to give me a heart attack or an aneurysm. the RD has been so much more difficult than the wedding!)

    AS A GUEST:

Always excited for good food, a good DJ, and a good touching ceremony.

Never excited for the bouquet toss (so awkward), photo booths, or favors that aren't coozies or edible (like a cookie, candy bar, etc). I usually throw favors away pretty shortly after the wedding.

    AS A BRIDE:

I'm most excited for our ceremony, its going to be absolutely beautiful. And our food (southern BBQ) and our DJ (he's the bomb.com). And our cake (using a baker who has done all of FH families cakes for decades).

    Foregone:

    Programs

    Mini menus on tables

    Favors

As a guest: Excited about seeing the bride's dress, the food, booze and great music. A lousy DJ kills a wedding, even with an open bar! lol. NOT excited about bouquet toss, looooong toasts, looooong first/last dances (awkward!) and I don't want a favor. Oh and too few seats at cocktail hour, no one wants to stand for an hour!

As a bride: Excited about my dress, our ceremony (string quartet playing our favorite song!) our photographer, and having a great party with our guests and awesome DJ! We are foregoing a first look, the bouquet toss/garter, father/daughter dance, programs, menus, and trying to decide between either a photobooth or donation to my kitty's animal shelter in lieu of favors.

Most excited for the food! That's always #1 and #2 is music #3 cake - I get excited at these things as a guest too

As a bride I'm skipping on:

The ceremony programs, menus, welcome bags, favors, Gartner toss most likely flower toss. I may also skip a photobooth

Flowers...I LOVE flowers and their beauty

    Dancing

    Least excited:

    Logistics...remembering everything I need to do/bring

Taking photos (I want the photos, just don't want to spend the time taking them ha)

    Hi!
We are going with this type of vibe for our wedding! What did you choose for music ? DJ, Ipod? I’m trying to decide if a DJ is worth it that’s why....
