That damn song...

Mallori, on October 31, 2014 at 2:25 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 26

I have been trying to decide what to walk down the aisle to for the last year. I had decided on A Thousand Years by Christina Perri (probably the Piano Guys version) before Twilight came out, and was incredibly pissed when I heard it during the movie. Now of course its the bridal anthem, and it seems like EVERYONE is using it.

But dammit...that song makes me cry every time I hear it. I don't know what to do! Should I just accept that people will probably roll their eyes when they hear it, and do what I want? Blah. Rant over.

I'm considering it, not because it's popular, but because I love it.

I don't think people will roll their eyes if they hear it. I saw twilight and I don't associate the song with that movie at all. I think it's a lovely song. Go for it! Everyone will see how happy you are and be happy right there with you.

I had the same problem. I heard it, loved it, found a instrumental guitar version, loved it more. And then found out it was twilight. I don't want to be walking down the aisle and have any one thinking about that movie. So I'm finding something else.

If you love it and it makes you emotional, I say go for it. I don't think it matters that it's really popular.

I am trying to decide between Turning Page and The One He Kept for me.

Just choose what you want people aren't going to say, "really that song again, I am leaving"

My bridal party and Husband walked down to Christina Perri's 1000 years. But our string quartet played it and it was so beautiful!

I say go for it. Who gives a rats ass about it being in Twilight or that other people use it at their wedding. You obviously have an emotional connection to it- which means you should play it!

Just to clarify, its nothing personal against twilight. I don't want to pick anything that has a strong association with something in pop culture. I want the music to be lovely and non obtrusive and contribute to the current moment. Not triggering the memory of something else, because its so recognizable

So, I love that song. And I loved it in the movie. And I've always wanted to walk down the aisle to it.

Then my best friend walked down the aisle to it.

Then I was in Home Depot getting keys made and I said to my FH "I want to use this in our wedding", to which the redneck standing behind us interupted, "Ain't this the song from Twilight?". Moment. Ruined.

And you know what? I'm still going to use it and I think you should too Smiley smile

You guys are so right. I just read a thread about listening to the Pandora Wedding Song station, so I'm doing that as a last effort for inspiration.

@ Mrs. Morales that made me actually laugh out loud. Can't get worse than that, right?

We will roll our eyes at you, but this is probably one of two or three weddings your guest has been to in the same year. They probably have never heard it and will think it's beautiful.

If you love it, pick it!

    I agree, @Mrs. Gamecock.

If you love it, do it--- especially the ceremony because that really is all about you and your FH's wishes.

Do what you really want! I hear it every week, multiple times, but the odds of your guests being over it? Slim and none.

I've been to a couple of wedding that played the song, never got tired of it. Each time is special, there's a different beautiful bride, a different reaction from the groom, I say if you love it go with it and don't worry about anything else.

I have been a fan of The Piano Guys since they started, and decided that was the song I wanted playing while I walked down the aisle. I didn't find out until we were actually getting the music that it was on Twilight (never seen the movies) and didn't realize until reading this that it is apparently popular. FWIW, none of my guests mentioned "wow, you used that tacky, overused bridal song? where's your sense of originality???" lol
