That awkward invitation moment you fear would happen.

We spent a lot of time agonizing over cuts to the guest list before sending out STDs. We had already gone over what we hoped once we looked at our list. We decided that if they weren't family and if we hadn't spent any time with them in the past year or talked regularly, they were cut. Well, today,...

We spent a lot of time agonizing over cuts to the guest list before sending out STDs. We had already gone over what we hoped once we looked at our list. We decided that if they weren't family and if we hadn't spent any time with them in the past year or talked regularly, they were cut. Well, today, a friend I have had since middle school (we are both in our 40's now), but rarely ever see (she hasn't even met FH) messaged saying, "I am sure your RSVPs are due soon, but I haven't gotten the invite. Did you get my new address? Hope to see you soon!" I love her dearly, but between our busy lives, etc. we only occasionally chat via FB. The only wedding talk on FB was the announcement of our engagement in January. She did ask about our venue and date choice because she and her partner are planning their own wedding. I feel horrible, and it is awkward. Because we had some declines, we decided to pull the "oops, I didn't have your address" (true!) and sent an invite today. Other awk stories?

Wow. Some of these are way more awkward than my situation. Smh. Sounds like everyone handled their situations well, though. Address on your FB wall???wth? A message would have been bad enough. Sorry to all you ladies. Brides seem to worry so much about hosting their guests and tackiness. Why worry so much when it seems the favor isn't returned? *somewhat sarcastic with that* Geez.

I had someone, an ex-GF of a friend-- she was so bad, one group of friends wouldn't even let her in their house-- ask me *twice* when she'd be getting her invite. It wasn't even a question of space-- we didn't even fill our quota so we could have invited her without it costing us more than the stamp to mail it to her-- but *nobody* liked this woman, plus she'd hit on DH while I was out of town one time. I brushed her off the first time, and the second time told her I just thought it wasn't appropriate, given what she'd done.

I just don't get it-- I don't enjoy weddings that much at ALL, so why people want to go around begging for invites is beyond me. Maybe if I drank it would make sense....

Awkward moment was when I was inviting my parents and I told them they were guest and not part of the wedding party. What made it awkward is my mother kept asking if my brother was escorting her to her seat. Finally I just said no your walking your own butt to a seat. You better be glad that I invited you at all because that can be changed. She hasn't asked again. Another awkward moment is when my father in front of a lot of other family members (we were at a family party) told me to my face that he didn't see any reason for him to drive 3 hours one way to be at my wedding and that he just wasn't interested. I was YES thank you GOD. My family blew up and he literally almost got beat by my uncle his little brother right there. Needless to say he is coming and so is his third wife that I wouldn't piss on if she was on fire. So one family photo with all the family members and I am done. Daughterly duties fulfilled.

Honestly, I just tell people we had a tight budget and unfortunately had to make tough decisions to fit it.

I didn't mention the fact that FH could not adhere to the "if you haven't talked to them in a year" rule and there are a lot of ridiculous invites on his side. Apparently a guest we're inviting got engaged back in December and he didn't know until he asked for her address in April and she mentioned their wedding is in October, too. *eye roll*

One of my boss' friends l, as soon as she heard we were engaged said oh I better be invited to the wedding I always said you would get married. Like 5 million times. Seriously she just kept saying it. I felt bad, only because she's older and I can't handle hurting old people's feelings. Needles to say she's invited.

My mom posted a rant about RSVPs on Facebook a couple weeks ago... RSVP deadline is June 1st. Not only that, but she got the date wrong in her rant! The icing on the cake was when my former roommate's mother commented about not getting an invite. My former roommate and I lived together for 4 1/2 years, and we moved apart a little over 7 years ago on not so great terms, so I decided to not invite her and her parents. But then my mom asked me if I would invite them/why I didn't invite them. So of course I felt somewhat guilty about it. I stuck to my original decision though.

I got a text from my aunt asking whether or not I had invited my other aunt. She absolutely is invited but apparently the invite got lost in the mail. I felt so embarrassed. I'm planning on checking in with everyone to make sure they received the invites. We're a little over a month away so I think it would be appropriate timing anyways.

I have a coworker who keeps saying she can't wait to see me in my wedding gown. She's not invited. We'll need a slew of "unable to attends" before I could even consider putting her on the list ... we have a bunch that would be put on before her and we can't afford to add people. Smiley sad

I had a 'friend' ask (multiple times) what her daughter should wear as the flower girl. 1. We're having a purely adult wedding. 2. This person is not close enough to either one of us anymore and we only see in large social gatherings. We have so many more kids we're very close to. 3. Most importantly, they're not invited to the wedding.

Ugh! I find it SO RUDE when people push for an invite. I am not one bit hesitant about declining them- they got themselves into the awkward situation and now they're going to have to deal with it.

I have a classmate who has hinted for an invitation 4 times (we've been engaged 6 months!) I started with an "oh we're trying to keep it small an intimate" the first time she hinted and last time I finally blurted out "sorry so-and-so, the guest list has been finalized and you didn't make the cut." Was it rude of me? Sure, but I was only matching her. That'll show her to ask for another invite.

My aunt sent my mom a text fishing for information. We aren't sending invites for months so I told her if anyone asks whom we aren't planning to invite to tell them we wanted a small, intimate wedding with mostly friends and close family. This really cuts the fat. I don't want a lot of people there who I never see or have never been around otherwise. They are free to get mad, but chances are that I won't care if people I didn't invite get mad because they weren't importance enough to make the list

@Brittany- STDs = Save the Dates

Good grief. Our RSVP deadline was the 28th. I am still tracking about 6 invitees down, but fortunately (?) most of my OOT cousins and such aren't coming (I figured on that) so the extra invite isn't an issue as far as numbers and budget. It is terrible, though, to put people in the position of having to make that decision or say, "sorry, we can't extend an invite." The RSVP rant on FB from a mom just slays me. I am sure she thought she was being helpful, but ugh.

I always find it interesting when people are not the least bit interested in what you have been up to, but when they hear wedding, suddenly they want all the details and an invite.

The friend I mentioned in my post RSVP'd last night and said, "wow, sounds like a blast. I definitely can't compete with that, so it solidified my decision for us to elope in Vegas." What??? It was never a competition with anyone for any reason. If she wants to elope, awesome for her. She should do exactly that if that is what her and FW want, but to comment about it being a completion of some sort?? I find it utterly strange. I am sure she meant to convey her excitement, but that was a weird way to do it.

In the end, I hope it is a blast, and I hope all of our guests have fun. I just wonder about the motivation to attend sometimes.

Thanks God FHs side of the family is 110 people...it's helped a lot when people ask if they're invited.

That's the worst. I have a 'friend' who hasn't talked to me since I decided she wasn't in my wedding party. Similar situation where we have been friends for a while but don't hang out or even talk regularly. She assumed she was in my wedding. She hasn't talked to me in months and blocked me on social media.
