Thank you's for the no shows?

Tiffany Nash, on October 7, 2014 at 3:31 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 46

It's been a little over 7 weeks since my wedding and we did our thank you's weeks ago. Well, last Thursday I lost my grandma and while all the family was together getting her arrangements done I had questions about where their thank you card was at......... umm...... you didn't go to my wedding or gift us with anything and I need to thank you for that? ugh, so annoying. If you remember the number of no shows we had and remember all of them were my family, it upset me.

Who do the thank you's go to? I'm not sending any to the no shows. That's for sure.

WHAT?!?! That is so insane!!! That is totally inappropriate!!

ETA: I think thank yous go to all the people that attended (even if they didn't bring a gift), and the people that RSVPed no and then sent a gift, or those that were no-shows but had a legitimate reason and sent a gift. But a no-show (even with a good reason) wouldn't get a thank you.

I think thank yous should go to those who attended, regardless of gift giving, and those who sent a gift even if they did not attend. No show+no gift=no thank you.

This is not the first post I have seen where no-shows who didn't send a gift still expected a thank you note. That just amazes me! What are you supposed to say in that card?! Thank you so much for blowing off our big day and not even bothering to send so much as a card, let alone a gift! I am curious, I really want to know what they expect that thank you note to say!

Mindbending, really. I agree with Teagan. What the hell would you say in a card like that?

The wedding was beautiful, sorry you didn't bother coming.

You can send them a thank you note; and include a bill for their seat.

Haha, thanks for what?!? "I would like to thank you for... well... I'm not sure what I'm thanking you for. Nothing really."

People have the most peculiar behaviors when it comes to weddings.

I am so sorry about your grandmother. Really can't think of a more inappropriate time to badger a person about something petty like thank you notes. I hate confrontation but can't imagine I would have been able to hold my tongue on that occasion!!

Thank you's go out to the people that came (regardless of gifts) and the ones who sent something. Pretty sure Hallmark doesn't make a "thanks for nothing" card.

Why should they get a thank you for not showing up?

    I like Celia's idea!

Sounds like your family lacks tact all around.... asking for thank you's for nothing at a funeral. Awesome.

Sorry about your grandma. Smiley sad

I'd send everyone who attended or who gifted you something a thank you. What does she expect her thank you to say? "Thanks for not coming to one of the biggest days of our lives and wasting $xxx on your seat. Please send a check or cash to our home address for the cost of your seat."?

I'm so sorry about your grandma! :'( It's been almost a year since my first grandmother passed away and I'm still a mess.

I agree with Celia! Send them a thank you note in the form of a bill! LOL!

Maybe I give people too much credit BUUUT maybe this is something you should look into. I don't know anybody who actually asks for thank you cards in the first place but maybe they did send something. Maybe it wasn't received?? It got lost in the mail? I don't know.
